Chandigarh, May 11, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab State Election Commission on Monday announced elections for 105 urban local bodies across the state, including eight Municipal Corporations, 76 Municipal Councils and 21 Nagar Panchayats.

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Raj Kamal Chaudhary said that polling for the civic bodies will be conducted on May 26, while counting of votes and declaration of results will take place on May 29.

The eight Municipal Corporations going to polls are Mohali, Pathankot, Moga, Kapurthala, Bathinda, Batala, Barnala and Abohar.

Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, the Chief Electoral Officer announced that the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect following the election announcement.

He informed that the nomination process will commence on May 13 and continue till May 16, while scrutiny of nomination papers will be carried out on May 18. Eligible voters will cast their votes on May 26 from 8.00 AM to 5.00 PM.

According to the State Election Commission, elections across the 105 urban local bodies will be conducted in a total of 2,019 wards, with polling scheduled at 3,977 polling stations set up across Punjab.

The Election Commission has, however, kept the elections to Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation and Sham Churasi Municipal Council on hold for the time being.

The civic polls are being viewed as politically significant, as they will serve as a key electoral test for major political parties ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
