St. Lucie, Florida, May 7, 2026(Yes Punjab News)
Less than one year ago, Harjinder Singh was extradited to Florida in custody and wearing handcuffs. Public commentary at the highest levels of government moved quickly to pronounce judgments of guilt before the full facts were known.
Divisive narratives pronounced guilt based almost entirely on his Sikh-Indian origins. This did little to serve justice and instead spread misunderstanding about what it means to be Sikh, while normalizing prejudice in public discourse.
On May 27, Harjinder Singh will again appear before the court in his case, alongside his dedicated legal team. His family, friends, supporters, and members of the public will also attend and, this time, he will not stand as a person that is presumed guilty, but rather as an innocent Sikh man awaiting a fair trial.
Seeing him wear his turban, which for him symbolizes faith, commitment, humility, and truth, the public will see him for the first time since August 22, 2025 as who he really is. His presence will reflect both his identity and the resilience of a community that continues to stand firmly in its principles despite the onslaught of hate messages over the course of the last year.
This moment, when Harjinder Singh appears in court in his Sikh turban, will underscore the importance of fair and consistent law enforcement, and of courts that uphold the rule of law in every case.
“His ability to appear in Court, in his everyday attire, including his turban, reflects the presumption of innocence to which he is entitled—and that our court system is upholding. That is how the justice system is meant to function: guided by facts, not prejudice.”
