United Sikhs celebrate Parkash Purab in Australia, organize photo-art exhibition depicting Guru Nanak Dev’s travels and teachings

Melton, November 8, 2022 (Yes Punjab News)
An air of enthusiasm was conspicuous during the celebrations of 553rd Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Sahib as United Sikhs and the Brothers & Sisters Foundation organized a devotional and cultural program in Melton, Australia.

n order to acquaint the young generation and guests with the life journey and teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Sahib Ji, we organized a photo-art exhibition depicting his travels and teachings.

Guru Sahib undertook Udasis (journeys) that spanned vast distances, geographies and several modern-day countries — the First Udasi, lasting about seven years, was from Punjab towards the East. The Second Udasi in the South was all the way to Sangladip (modern-day Sri Lanka area), spanned another seven years. During the third Udasi, Guru Sahib traveled from Kashmir to Sumer Parbat, Sikkim, Tibet, and more and the during Fourth Udasi, he visited Mecca Madina, Baghdad, Arab countries and beyond.

Sangat, especially the youngsters were surprised by the expanse of Guru Sahib’s travels in those times. Visitors learnt about His teachings about human dignity, equality, interfaith harmony and inter-racial cooperation, and human rights. They said that teachings can be a panacea for the major problems confronting the world.

Ms. Ingrid Stitt MP, Minister for Workplace Safety and Minister for Early Childhood, and Mr. Steve McGhie along with Mathew Hilakari – Labor Candidate for Point Cook and Melton City Councilor Sophie Ramsey Coburn Ward participated in the celebrations.

Bhai Charanbir Singh Rababi performed Gurbani kirtan with Rabab and children also performed kirtan and Damdami Taksal Ranjeet AKhada Australia presented their dynamic on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Jatinder Singh Aashat said, “We thank United Sikhs for the generous support. With your donation, we have accomplished our goal of celebrating the 553rd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Sahib Ji. It truly made a big difference for us,” Jatinder Singh Aashat, Secretary, Brother & Sister Foundation said.

“While every Sikh aspires to live by the teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Sahib Ji, the Parkash Purab ought to be the time to reflect on how we can incorporate these teachings at individual and community level, and beyond to help, heal and foster a more harmonious world,” Gurvinder Singh, United Sikhs National Director Australia said. “The purpose of this exhibition was to spread Guru Nanak Sahib’s message of equality, humanity, sharing, caring and love,” he said.
