Time for AAP to dispense justice on sacrilege: Sukhpal Khaira

Chandigarh, March 12, 2022 (Yes Punjab News)
Newly elected congress MLA from Bholath and former Leader of the Opposition party (LOP) of Punjab on Saturday has demanded justice for the sacrilege incidents that occurred in the state in 2015.

Khaira, who went to meet Sukhraj Singh today at Behbal Kalan, where he has been sitting on protest for the last more than two months, said though Aam Aadmi Party which was bestowed upon with a massive mandate has not yet formed the government in the state however it is high time people get justice on the sacrilege issues.

Khaira said being an MLA of the opposition party it was his duty to remind the AAP how the family members of the victims of Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura police firing incidents have been deprived of justice for the last more than six and a half years.

However Khaira was quick to add that AAP designate Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his new cabinet colleagues must be first allowed to settle down and understand the intricacies of administration before taking some significant decisions.

” We as congressmen don’t want to put unnecessary pressure or burden on the newly elected government. They may take three to six months to first apprise themselves of the burning issues of Punjab before prioritizing their decisions”, said Khaira.

It may be mentioned here that Krishan Bhgwan Singh and Gurjeet Singh Bittu both died in the police firing that took place on October 14, 2015, in Behbal Kalan. A similar police firing had also occurred on Kotkapura where many protesters were injured.

Sukhraj Singh, son of Krishan Bhagwan Singh said though many senior leaders such as Capt. Amarinder Singh and Charanjit Singh Channi had assured him quick justice but nothing happened on the ground during all these years.

Even Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had come to meet him and ensured quick justice.

Khaira said he would ask AAP that former IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh who investigated the Behbal Kalan police firing incident as a police officer and has now been elected as AAP MLA must go into the bottom of the sacrilege and get the people responsible for these incidents punished.

Kunwar Vijay Pratap should also expose the police officers responsible for ordering fire on the people peacefully protesting against the sacrilege, said Khaira.
