SGPC to publish an Illustrated Book about Sri Darbar Sahib: Harjinder Singh Dhami

Amritsar, April 29, 2023 (Yes Punjab News)
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has taken important decisions for publishing a beautifully illustrated book about Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib and new books on Sikh history.

During the meeting of the Sikh Itihas Research Board (SIRB) presided over by SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami at the SGPC headquarters today, permission has been granted to publish the research-filled books on the occasion of the first centenary of Jaito Morcha, to document the 100-year history of SGPC and reprint important documents published in the past.

About the decisions in the meeting, Harjinder Singh Dhami said that an important illustrated and documentary book will be prepared about the history of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib and the associated shrines here. This book will document historical details and references besides high-quality photographs. This commemorative book will be in the English language and will be sent to important places in the country and abroad apart from being gifted to the prominent personalities who visit the shrine to worship.

He said that the SIRB has also decided to document the 100-year history of SGPC. Earlier, the 50-year history of SGPC was published, but as the Sikh body has completed its 100-year journey, it is, therefore, important to convey important decisions, Panthic work, and achievements made during this time to the people.

The SGPC President said that many important research works were done by the SIRB in the past, including the research paper called ‘Itihasak Patar’ (historical letter).

“The previous issues of this research paper are very important, which will be republished and after that, it will also be considered to continue its new series. Its purpose is to attract Sikh researchers towards research on the subject of history”, said Harjinder Singh Dhami.

He also said that research work will also be conducted on the basis of contemporary newspapers about the Gurdwara Reform Movement, SGPC, Shiromani Akali Dal, and the Ghadar movement. He said actions will also be taken to establish an active forum for responding to anti-Sikh narratives on social media and a three-member committee has been formed in this regard, which will prepare the outline.

Apart from SGPC president, those present in the meeting included SIRB member in-charge Bhai Amarjit Singh Chawla, SIRB members Dr Balwant Singh Dhillon, Dr Paramvir Singh, Dr Prabhjot Kaur, Harvinder Singh Khalsa, special invitee Dr Kehar Singh, Dr Inderjit Singh Gogoani, SGPC secretary Pratap Singh, OSD Satbir Singh Dhami, additional secretary Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, assistant secretary Shahbaz Singh, in-charge Jogeshwar Singh, Bagicha Singh, scholars Dr Ranjit Kaur and Armanjit Singh.
