Post Graduate department of English, Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Ludhiana organised a one day International Webinar, titled The Mystic Philosopher Professor Puran Singh.
The webinar commenced with a warm welcome of the dignitaries, eminent speakers and the audience by Dr. S. P. Singh (former Vice-Chancellor, GNDU, Amritsar), President, Gujranwala Khalsa Education Council, Ludhiana who mentioned that Prof Puran Singh is not only a poet and writer he has been well-known as a great physicist, a chemical scientist who practiced how to get oil from the plants.
He is a visionary whose philosophy shows the path of salvation and also influences one to be a good human.
Dr. Sushmindarjeet Kaur, head and associate professor of the department introduced the theme of the webinar in which she told about the ‘mystic’ nature of Prof Puran Singh who has written books in English, Hindi and Punjabi languages.
She also shared the names of eminent speakers of the day; Dr. Hardev Singh Virk, Professor of Eminence, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib currently residing in Canada.
Dr. Manjit Inder Singh, head and Professor, department of English, Punjabi University, Patiala, and Dr. Rupinder Kaur, former head and Professor, department of English, Punjabi University, Patiala. The event progressed with the formal introduction of Professor of Eminence, Dr. Hardev Singh Virk who has served at various renowned institutes on the eminent posts.
Dr. Sushmindarjeet Kaur while introducing Dr. Virk, also mentioned that a book is going to be published in the month of November in Canada which will be based on the research work conducted by Dr. Virk. Dr. Virk, in his enlightening lecture shared the hidden and unravelled facts and truths of Prof Puran Singh and his achievements. He said that after Rabindranath Tagore Prof. Puran Singh was the first Punjabi poet whose works were published in England during 1921-26.
He delineates that Prof Puran Singh has talked about the spiritualism in his works and according to him a poet who writes and appreciates the God and spiritualism can only be considered a poet. Dr. Hargunjot Kaur, Associate Professor, introduced the renowned academician Dr. Manjit Inder Singh, former Head and Professor, department of English, Punjabi University, Patiala.
Dr. Manjit Inder Singh while sharing his thought provoking views on Prof Puran Singh mentioned that he has been a revolutionary thinker. He subsumed the dialectical creed of his gurus he met on the path. He traverses from science to literature with an ease which is remarkable.
The essence of Prof Puran Singh’s creations can never be captured through the use of technology but one has to be simple, truthful, toil harder and be an ardent researcher to reach his basic self. Dr. Bhupinder Jeet Kaur, assistant professor, introduced Dr. Rupinder Kaur, head and Professor, department of English, Punjabi University, Patiala.
He is refered to as Tagore of Punjab. She quoted from his writings that the real and true path is to delve deep into one’s soul, surrendering to the unknown, to immerse oneself in the spirit of the universe and to seek salvation in life and not in death.
Dr. Arvinder Singh Bhalla, college Principal, proposed a vote of thanks to express his heartfelt gratitude to all the intellectual and learned speakers and the guests.
He applauded and congratulated the faculty members for their relentless endeavours in organising such webinars which not only enrich the knowledge but also provide a new experience to enhance the personality and come up as a new and polished version of oneself.
