The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) organized the All India Inter-University (AIIU) National Hockey (Men) Championship-2023/24. Here, exhibiting their superb prowess and hockey skills, students of Lovely Professional University (LPU) lifted the Championship trophy.
Three of the LPU students are also declared as the best goalkeeper, deep defender, and the best player as well. The team of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar is declared 1st Runner up; and, Bengaluru City University is 2nd Runner up.
This national competition was held among the top 16 university teams from across four zones, with the top four each from a respective zone.
All matches were played at the BSF Punjab Frontier Turf Ground in Jalandhar (Punjab). The involvement of all top-skilled teams from different states of India was set to get assessed for further national and international competitions based on their performance in this tournament.
Expressing immense happiness, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) & LPU’s Founder Chancellor Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal congratulated the winning students and their mentors/coaches. Dr Mittal also shared that LPU is proud of having a maximum of hockey players in the Indian Team, who always earn glory for the country and the university.
He also emphasized that such a competition always contributes to the overall development of the sports culture in the country.
