Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal today said that joint teams of civil and Police administration along with Excise department would take stern action against any sort of liquor smuggling, bootlegging in the district.
Chairing a meeting here at the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said that any such activity would be dealt with sternly and severest of severe action would be taken against the culprits.
They said that exemplary action would be taken against such persons, including under the relevant provisions of the Disaster Management and Epidemics Act etc. They said that special checking would be organized in the coming days to check liquor smuggling and bootlegging in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said that the joint teams of the Civil and Police administration along with the Excise department would be formed at the Tehsil and Sub Divisional for the purpose.
They said that the teams would jointly work ensuring that the liquor smuggling, bootlegging and illicit distillation of liquor, if any, in the district was checked efficaciously. They said that any such illegal act would be dealt with strictly adding that any sort of diligence on part of officer was unwarranted and undesirable.
The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police also directed the officers of the Civil and Police administration to have regular interactions with the Excise Department officers and also the contractors for feedback. They said that this would enable sustained and focused effort against drug smugglers/suppliers/distillers adding that failure, if any, in this regard would be viewed very seriously.
