JAC rejects Post Matric Scholarship Scheme, Unaided Colleges demand release of pending Rs.1850-crore

Mohali, November 1, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)
Joint Association of Colleges (JAC) has rejected new Post Matric Scholarship declared by Punjab Govt. recently JAC said that the new education policy is meant for 2020-21. But our first question to Govt is what about the pending Post matric Scholarship of the year 2016-17 (415.60 crore), 2017-18 (Rs 538 crore); 2018-19 (Rs 437.19 crore) and 2019-20 (around 450 crore) which is accumulated to 1850 crores?

S. Jagjit Singh, President, JAC; Dr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Chairman, JAC; and Dr. Anshu Kataria Co-Chairman, JAC said that out of 1650 unaided colleges of Punjab, majority of the colleges have turned into NPA because of the 4-year delay in the Post Matric Scholarship and still in the new policy nothing has been mentioned about the pending Post Matric Scholarship.

S. Charanjit Singh Walia and S. Manjit Singh, Patrons, JAC added that even in new policy the government has imposed the condition of 40% contribution from private unaided colleges without taking JAC into confidence. It is a one-sided decision of government which we will not accept.

They further said that we are concerned with the future of 3 lakh SC students of Punjab but at the same time we cannot contribute any amount against the tuition fees of the SC student as it is not being done anywhere in the Country.

S. Nirmal Singh, Senior Vice President, JAC; S. S Chattha, General Secretary, JAC and S. Rajindra Singh Dhanoa, Secretary, JAC said that the government should immediately release 309 crores which has been given to Punjab in March-April by the Centre Govt.. Govt should also clarify immediately that when the balance of 1550 crores would be disbursed, JAC asserted?

Sh. Shimanshu Gupta, Finance Secretary, JAC; S. Jasnik Singh Kakkar, S. Satvinder Singh Sandhu and Sh. Vipan Sharma, Vice Presidents JAC added that soon a meeting to be organised to address the issue on 6th November.
