Panchkula, Aug 7 2024 (Yes Punjab News)
The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Haryana State Crime Branch has successfully reunited 18-year-old Jitendra Chahal with his family after he went missing from Maharashtra’s Gondia district a decade ago.
Jitendra, who disappeared at the age of 8 in 2014, was brought back to his family today in Panchkula, resulting in an emotional reunion that left his relatives overwhelmed with joy and gratitude.
The breakthrough came after extensive efforts by Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajesh Kumar of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit. Kumar contacted the Bilaspur Child Home in Chhattisgarh while searching for missing children from Haryana.
A worker at the home informed him about an 18-year-old boy named Jitendra Chandell, who had been residing there for approximately eight years.
Through detailed counseling and phone conversations, Jitendra disclosed his name, his father’s name (Arjun Chandell), his mother’s name (Jijabai), and his brother’s name (Raj). He recalled leaving his village, Mali, with his mother but remembered little else.
The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit team identified the Chandell caste and Mali village and contacted various states to gather information.
After about six months of diligent searching, they traced Jitendra’s family, discovering that they had moved to Pune.
Jitendra’s family was located, and his uncle, Rajesh, was contacted. It was revealed that Jitendra’s mother, Jijabai, had been mentally unwell and had disappeared with Jitendra in 2014.
Despite extensive searches, both had remained missing until the recent discovery. On July 26, 2024, it was confirmed that Jitendra’s original village was Madanpur in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district.
His father had passed away, and both Jitendra and his mother had been missing together.
On Tuesday, Jitendra’s uncle and family arrived in Panchkula to reunite with him.
The reunion was deeply emotional, and the family expressed profound gratitude to the Haryana police for their relentless efforts.
Director General Police Shatrujeet Kapur praised the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit for their dedication and hard work, encouraging them to continue their efforts with the same zeal.
Additional Director General of Police Mamta Singh emphasized the role of social media in locating missing persons, noting that such platforms can significantly aid in spreading information quickly.
Singh urged the public to share details of missing persons on their social media accounts, as these posts can be crucial in swiftly reuniting missing children with their families.
