Punjab Agriculture Minister S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian today visited the flood-affected border villages of Fazilka district to review relief and rescue operations. During his visit to village Ghurka, the Minister personally reached the innermost houses on a tractor-trolley and interacted with the affected residents to understand their concerns.
S. Khudian informed that water discharge from Harike Headworks has decreased by 19,000 cusecs, and currently 2,44,000 cusecs of water is being released. He assured that under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is committed to extending every possible immediate assistance to the flood-hit areas.
The Minister stated that various departmental teams are actively present in the affected villages, ensuring the supply of essential items, fodder, and feed for livestock. He added that the district administration has set up eight relief camps, where arrangements for langar (community kitchens), ration, and other relief material are being provided without interruption.
Highlighting government initiatives, S. Khudian said that special girdawari (crop loss assessment) has already been ordered for the damaged crops, and details of losses to houses will also be compiled to provide compensation accordingly.
MLA from Fazilka, Mr. Narinder Pal Singh Sawna, who accompanied the Minister, said that relief operations are being carried out on a war footing to ensure timely assistance to every affected household.
The Agriculture Minister further informed that teams from the Agriculture and Animal Husbandry departments have also been deployed in all affected villages. On this occasion, he also oversaw the distribution of relief material to the people in Ghurka village.
Deputy Commissioner Fazilka Ms. Amarpreeet Kaur Sandhu, SDM Virpal Kaur, Trade Board representative Mr. Atul Nagpal, Chairman Inderjit Singh, District President Upkar Singh Jakhar, Market Committee Chairman Paramjit Singh Noor Shah, and Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Dr. Mandeep Singh were also present during the Minister’s visit.
