First Surjit 5-A-Side Women Gold Cup Hockey: RCF Kapurthala beats Punjab XI, wrests title

Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala won the title of the first Surjit 5 A Side Women Gold Cup Hockey Tournament by defeating Punjab XI by a tough competition by 4-3 margin.

Union Bank of India Mumbai won the third position by defeating Haryana XI by a margin of 12-5.

Sukhdev Singh (AIG Group) distributed prizes to the winning teams of the tournament held at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium.

The winning team was awarded Rs 1 lakh cash and winning trophy, the runner-up team was awarded Rs 75,000 cash and runner-up trophy and the third-placed team was awarded Rs 31,000 cash and trophy.

Olympian Navjot Kaur of Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala team was declared the best player of the tournament and was awarded with Smt.

Swadesh Chopra Memorial Trophy and Rs 11000 in cash. Punjab XI goalkeeper Kirandeep Kaur was declared the best goalkeeper of the tournament and was awarded a trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 11,000.

Fast-paced hockey was seen in the final match. Rail Coach Factory was leading 2-1 at half time.

For Rail Coach Factory, Aishwarya scored two goals and Manpreet Kaur and Gagandeep Kaur scored one goal each. Whereas for Punjab, Sukhveer Kaur, Sumita and Mithali scored one goal each.

In the semi-final played before the final match, Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala entered the final by defeating Union Bank of India Mumbai by a margin of 7-4.

Rail Coach Factory led 4–1 at half time. Aishwarya scored a hat-trick and scored three goals for RCF.

In the second semi-final, Punjab XI defeated Haryana XI by a margin of 8-3 and entered the final. Punjab XI was leading 3-2 at half time.

Sumita scored a hat-trick and scored three goals for Punjab XI. Akanshka scored two goals for Punjab.

At the time of today’s matches Lakhvinderpal Singh Khaira, Rajan Kohli (Tyka), LR Nayyar, Iqbal Singh Sandhu, Ranjit Singh Tutt, Ranbir Singh Tutt, Natha Singh Gakhal, Olympian Colonel Balbir Singh, Surinder Singh Bhapa, Prof. Kripal Singh Matharu, Parveen Gupta, Ripudaman Kumar Singh, Ram Sharan, George Pal, Ram Pratap, Kuldeep Singh, Surjit Kaur, Narendrapal Singh Judge, Paramjit Singh, Harinder Singh Sangha, Gaurav Agarwal, Sadhu Singh Khalour, Jaspal Singh Sarpanch, Gurmeet Singh Sidhu, Lakhbir Singh Khatza. were especially present.
