Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) is not providing information under the Right to Information Act (RTI). While giving details in this regard, Mr. Inder Mohan Singh, former DSGMC member and expert in Delhi Gurdwara Affairs said that the Hon’ble Information Commissioner Heeralal Samariya, while jointly disposing of over one dozen appeals, in his Orders dated May 5, 2022 issued directions to the Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) of the DSGMC to provide required information to the appellant within 45 days positively.
It is pertinent to mention that the appellant in his various applications sought some information regarding administrative matters of the Guru Teg Bahadur Institute of Technology (GTBIT) being run by the DSGMC. But the P.I.O. refused to provide information on the plea that the desired information is vague, voluminous and cumbersome.
But the Hon’ble Information Commissioner, while setting aside all the plea of the P.I.O. said that the P.I.O. failed to give any cogent reply and expressed displeasure over such a lackadaisical conduct of the PIO and warn her to extremely careful in future so that such lapses do not occur. The Commission also directed the P.I.O. to provide the required information to the appellant free of charge and a compliance report should be submitted to the Central Information Commission (CIC) accordingly.
Mr Inder Mohan Singh said that it appears that the working in the DSGMC is not transparent that’s why the management is shirking away from providing information.
While giving more information, Mr Singh said that on one hand no information under the RTI Act is provided in respect of the DSGMC’s run Guru Harkrishan Public Schools (GHPS) on the plea that these schools are run by the Guru Harkrishan School Society but simultaneously in the matter of payment of arrears to employees of these schools, the management is filing affidavits in the Court of Law that the said School Society has no concern with the GHPS Schools.
Mr Inder Mohan Singh asked the DSGMC management to clear its stand and provide all information to the Public because the DSGMC is a statutory religious body constituted under an Act of Parliament of India.
