After setting high benchmarks in education and research, students from the Central University of Punjab, have now excelled in sports.
Khushdeep Kaur, from the Department of Punjabi, CU Punjab, delivered a spectacular performance in the 63rd National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship held at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula, Haryana, from June 27 to 30, 2024. She participated in the Women’s 4x400m Relay (athletics track event) and brought laurels to the university by winning a silver medal.
Khushdeep Kaur was part of the four-member Punjab contingent, who obtained second position by clocking a time of 3:43.23 minutes in the Women’s 4x400m Relay. The team from Andhra Pradesh secured the first position, while Delhi obtained the third position in this competition.
Apart from this, Khushdeep Kaur also proved her sporting mettle at the 99th Punjab State Open and Youth Athletics Championship held in Tarn Taran, Punjab, from May 23 to 24, 2024. She won a gold medal in the 400m Hurdles, completing the sport in just 1:05.02 Minutes.
Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor, congratulated Khushdeep Kaur on this remarkable achievement and encouraged her to continue excelling in sports.
He expressed hope that with consistent effort and regular practice, Khushdeep Kaur could represent our country in the Olympics. On this occasion, the Vice-Chancellor also appreciated Dr. Sanjeev Mander, Head, Dept. of Physical Education, and Prof. Ramanpreet Kaur, Head, Dept. of Punjabi, for extending support in nourishing the talent of Khushdeep Kaur.
