Capt Amarinder orders high alert amid warning of heavy rainfall in next 48-72 hours

Amid a forecast of heavy rainfall in the state in the next 48 to 72 hours, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday night ordered a high alert and directed all the Deputy Commissioners to monitor the situation closely.

Captain Amarinder has asked the DCs to be prepared to deal with any exigency in view of the warning from the Indian Meteorological Department.

The Chief Minister has directed the DCs across the stay to stay vigilant in view of the Met department’s prediction, and ensure the safety & security of the people in the event of any untoward situation arising from the heavy rainfall expected over the next 2-3 days.

According to an official spokesperson, the Chief Minister himself is keeping close tabs on the situation. He has instructed field officers of Revenue, Drainage, Health, Food and Animal Husbandry Departments to stay alert and prepared to handle any eventuality arising out of heavy rains. He has also asked them to be ready with an action plan for relief and rehabilitation works as and when needed.

The officers have been asked by Captain Amarinder not to leave their headquarters in view of the forecast of heavy downpour in the state.
