Badal family habitual beneficiary of govt facilities: Malvinder Kang

Chandigarh, March 1, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) again attacked Shiromani Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on the Sukh Vilas Hotel issue. AAP Punjab chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang said that the Badal family is a habitual beneficiary of government facilities.

Addressing a press conference at the Chandigarh party headquarters on Friday, Malvinder Kang said that the Badals always used power for their personal gains and for the family business. Sukh Vilas Hotel is just one example of this. They misused every government department.

Kang, giving an example, said that when Prakash Singh Badal issued the notification for SYL canal land in 1977, in return he got land from the Haryana government for a five star hotel in Gurgaon. In 1997, when his government did the upgradation work of SYL, he got the benefit of getting maximum water to Balasar’s farms so that there was no problem in farming there.

These people did not even leave the holy Gurbani out of it. They also limited the propagation of Guru Sahib’s words and earned profit from it. Its monopoly was given to their own channel PTC. No other channel had the right to broadcast it. If other channels had also got the right to broadcast Gurbani, SGPC would have got crores of rupees.

They started their transport business similarly. For their own benefit, they came up with a transport policy in which less tax was imposed on private buses and more tax was imposed on government buses. In that policy, all the rules of the transport department were flouted, which directly benefited their transport company.

Even in the Sukh Vilas Hotel case, they misused their power for advantage. Ignoring forest laws, they built a five star hotel and got tax and electricity bills waived off from the government, thereby defrauding the Punjab treasury of about Rs 108 crore. He said that Sukh Vilas Hotel was built with the blood and sweat of the people of Punjab.

He said that the Badal family did not spare any resource of Punjab when they were in power. They used Punjab’s water, land, forest, transportation and even Gurbani to their advantage. Kang appealed to the people not to fall prey to Sukhbir Badal’s words. Their job is to run their businesses by misleading people.
