Affiliation of non-performing Youth Clubs to be terminated, only 3500 out of 13500 Clubs functioning: Bindra

Newly appointed chairman of Punjab Youth Development Board Mr Sukhwinder Singh Bindra has informed that there are around 13,500 youth clubs registered with the Youth Services Department in the state, out of which maximum were formed fraudulently before the Congress formed government in state in 2017, and their affiliations would be terminated.

He said this during the surprise check of office of Youth Services Department in District Administrative Complex, here today.

While speaking to media persons on the occasion, Mr Bindra informed that there are around 13,500 youth clubs registered with the department in the state, out of which only around 3,500 are functioning properly in real terms, whereas the remaining are non performing and are not involved in any work on ground level. He said that majority of the non performing youth clubs were formed and affiliated during the tenure of previous Punjab government.

Mr Bindra said that he is supervising this matter himself and soon, the affiliation of all non performing youth clubs would be terminated as they are neither working for the betterment of youth nor for their villages/areas. He said that ever since he took over as chairman, he is working tirelessly for the betterment of Youth Services Department Punjab and is supervising the functioning of all offices of Youth Services Department in other districts of the state.

He said that a joint meeting of all Assistant Directors of the department would be convened shortly, where all matters related to the department would be discussed. He said that along with termination of affiliation of non performing youth clubs, he would ensure that maximum number of youth get associated with youth clubs. And the clubs that are performing well, they would be encouraged.

Mr Sukhwinder Singh Bindra also said that the NSS units and Red Ribbon Clubs associated with the department would also be made active so that maximum number of people get benefitted from the welfare schemes of the Punjab government. He called upon the youth to contribute in the anti drug campaign and Ghar Ghar Rozgar Yojana of the state government. He also showed satisfaction over the working of the Ludhiana office.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Assistant Director Mr Davinder Singh Lotey, besides several others.
