Big blow to BJP candidate Parampal Kaur Sidhu: Punjab Govt rejects case for VRS

Chandigarh, May 7, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Government has turned down voluntary retirement case of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bathinda candidate and a former IAS officer Parampal Kaur Sidhu.

The Government has rejected her ‘resignation’ with immediate effect and issued a notice to her to return to her official duty.

According to sources, the government has pointed out that the reasons given by her for seeking voluntary retirement don’t match with reality.

Parampal Kaur Sidhu, a Punjab Cadre IAS officer, and a daughter-in-law of senior Akali leader and former Cabinet Minister Sikander Singh Maluka had ‘resigned’ from her service and claimed that she had sought VRS.

It has been learnt that she gave some other reason while tendering her resignation or application for VRS but a few days after the application she joined BJP and was allotted ticket to contest parliamentary election from Bathinda. She is actively campaigning as a BJP candidate in the constituency.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had himself claimed that her resignation has not been accepted.

Sources say that Parampal Kaur did not serve the government with a notice of three months which is said to be mandatory.

Sources said that the Government has asked the IAS officer to report back to her duty immediately.

The government argues that there is already a shortage of officers and thus an officer cannot be relieved without serving a notice of stipulated period. It is also said that the VRS was sought by presenting wrong reasons.

The decision of the government has created quite an interesting situation and it would be interesting to watch how the IAS officer and the BJP react to the situation.
