Manish Tewari suggests alternate site for NSG Centre at Rupnagar

Chandigarh, Feb 14, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Sri Anandpur Sahib MP Manish Tewari has suggested setting up of the Regional Centre of the National Security Guard (NSG) in Rupnagar in case suitable and appropriate site is not available in Pathankot, where originally the government of India had planned to set up it.

Tewari in a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, which he has duly acknowledged, said, that without in anyway meaning to takeaway the project from Pathankot district, he would like the union government to consider the already available site in Rupnagar if suitable site was not found in Pathankot.

The MP said, the particular land in Rupnagar was earlier identified by the Ministry of Defence for setting up the Army Selection Centre (North) in the district. He said, the state government had allotted 203 acres of land of the Birla Farm near the permanent campus of Indian Institute of Technology for the Army Selection Centre.

He said, since that land was lying vacant, as the MOD has been vacillating on the proposed Army Selection Centre, the same could be transferred to the MHA with prior permission of the government of Punjab and can be utilized for the proposed NSG centre.
