Death of Sangrur Dalit labourer: Mann raises issue in Parliament; demands 50 lakh compensation for family

New Delhi/Chandigarh, November 18, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi (AAP) Punjab President and Member of Parliament (MP) Bhagwant Mann has slammed the Captain Amarinder Singh government in the state for the spurt in the crime due to the collapse of the law and order machinery in the state.

Referring to the death of a Dalit labourer, Jagmel Singh, of Changaliwala village under Sangrur Parliamentary constituency, following grievous injuries sustained by him after he was brutally beaten up by upper caste brats latching him to a tree inflicting third degree torture, saying he was forced to drink his own urine to quench his thirst, Mann said that several Dalit and other organizations were holding protests in Sangrur while the aggrieved family was staging a sit-in protest in Chandigarh to bring those behind the nerve-chilling incident while Captain and his kitchen cabinet were on a ‘hunting expedition’ to certain European countries, lamenting that there was no minister or government official to talk to over the issue involving precious life.

Speaking on the opening day of the Winter Session of Parliament on Monday during the zero hour, Mann said that while Captain and his kitchen cabinet were on their European jaunt, the criminals and anti-social element were out the prowl, taking a toll on human lives without the scantest fear of the law.

Demanding union home minister Amit Shah’s intervention in the matter, the AAP MP said that he should direct the state department for home affairs to expedite the investigations to bring those behind this horrific crime to justice, besides immediately sanctioning a compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the aggrieved family and giving a government job to the next of kin of the deceased. He also demanded exemplary punishment for those behind the savage act to the recurrence of such macabre incidents in the state.
