A private security guard was shot dead in broad daylight outside the residence of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Jharkhand’s Chatra town on Tuesday, officials said.
The incident has triggered panic in the entire area. Police have arrested the accused guard on the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
According to preliminary findings, an altercation broke out between two private security guards over an undisclosed issue. During the dispute, one of the guards allegedly opened fire on the other, causing fatal injuries. The victim died on the spot.
Following the incident, police teams rushed to the scene on the directions of Animesh Naithani, Superintendent of Police, Chatra.
Senior officers, including the SDPOs of Simaria and Tandwa, inspected the site and reviewed the situation. Police have taken the accused into custody and have begun questioning him.
Investigators have also seized a Ford Endeavour parked near the scene. Preliminary information suggests that the vehicle belongs to the owner of a construction company associated with the Chatra bypass project.
Police sources said that some weapons were recovered from the vehicle, although officials are yet to confirm the recovery.
A forensic team has been called in to collect scientific evidence from the site. Police are also examining CCTV footage from the vicinity and questioning eyewitnesses to establish the sequence of events.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the deceased guard or the exact motive behind the shooting.
It also remains unclear whether the incident was solely the result of a personal dispute or if other factors were involved.
Police said all angles are being investigated and further action will be taken based on forensic findings, witness statements and other evidence.
