New Delhi Police chief calls on L-G TS Sandhu at Lok Niwas

New Delhi, July 18, 2026
Newly-appointed Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar called on Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Saturday and informally discussed the roadmap for improving security and law and order.

In a post on X, the Lok Niwas said, “Shri Anurag Kumar, newly appointed Commissioner of Police, @DelhiPolice, called on Hon’ble @LtGovDelhi, Sardar @SandhuTaranjitS, at @LokNiwasDelhi today.”

Former Intelligence Bureau (IB) Special Director Anurag Kumar on Friday took charge as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police.

Outgoing Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha formally handed over the ceremonial baton to Kumar at the Delhi Police Headquarters in New Delhi.

A 1994-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, Anurag Kumar succeeds Golcha, a 1992-batch officer who assumed charge as Delhi Police Commissioner in August last year.

Although Golcha’s tenure was scheduled to continue until April 2027, the government directed him to report to the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.

Kumar’s return to his parent AGMUT cadre was approved on Thursday by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Following his repatriation from the Intelligence Bureau, the ACC cleared his appointment as Delhi Police Commissioner.

“With the approval of the Competent Authority, Anurag Kumar, IPS (AGMUT:1994), is hereby appointed as Commissioner of Police, Delhi, with effect from the date of assumption of charge and until further orders,” an official order stated.

With nearly 32 years of experience in policing, administration and intelligence operations, Kumar brings extensive expertise in internal security and law enforcement to one of the country’s most demanding policing assignments.

During his tenure in the Intelligence Bureau, India’s premier domestic intelligence agency, he handled several critical portfolios related to national security, counter-terrorism strategy, intelligence gathering and analysis, and other sensitive security matters.(Agency)
