Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) Member Padma Shri Jatinder Singh Shunty on Friday urged people to report cases involving fake visas, forged job offer letters, fraudulent marriages and immigration scams, asserting that those exploiting innocent people in the name of overseas employment would face strict legal action.
Shunty was addressing a Human Rights Awareness Camp, an anti-drug awareness programme, and an open public grievance hearing organised at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Nabha. The event witnessed participation from officials of various government departments, representatives of social organisations and members of the public.
‘Timely Justice Is Our Priority’
Addressing the gathering, Shunty said the primary objective of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission is to safeguard the rights of every citizen, spread awareness about human rights and ensure that victims receive timely justice.
He said the Commission is making sustained efforts to extend its reach to every household in Punjab so that no citizen is deprived of his or her rights.
Crackdown on Immigration Frauds
Expressing concern over increasing incidents of immigration-related fraud, Shunty said strict action would be taken against rackets involved in issuing fake visas, forged employment offer letters, sham marriages and other fraudulent schemes promising overseas travel or jobs.
He appealed to the public to come forward with information about such fraudsters so that appropriate legal action could be initiated against them.
Calls for Greater Administrative Sensitivity
Appreciating the welfare initiatives undertaken by the Nabha administration, Shunty directed government officials to adopt a more sensitive and proactive approach while addressing public grievances.
He also praised the contribution of non-governmental organisations and social service groups and urged the district administration to work in close coordination with them to strengthen welfare initiatives.
Special Instructions for Emergency Response
Shunty also issued important directions to improve emergency response services.
He suggested that in life-threatening situations reported on the 112 emergency helpline, especially involving critically ill patients, the police should provide pilot vehicle assistance to ambulances to ensure patients reach hospitals without delay and precious lives are saved.
WhatsApp Number for Human Rights Complaints
To facilitate prompt redressal of human rights violations, Shunty announced the Commission’s WhatsApp helpline number 9855475547, where citizens can submit written complaints.
He assured that action on every complaint would be initiated within two days.
He also appealed to people not to hesitate in approaching the Commission whenever their human rights are violated.
During the programme, Shunty held detailed discussions with officials of various departments and representatives of social organisations on issues relating to human rights. He also heard public grievances on the spot and directed the concerned officials to take necessary action.
