Bihar: Four killed, two injured in Arwal road accident

Patna, July 11, 2026
A tragic road accident claimed the lives of four people and left two others critically injured after a passenger tempo (three-wheeler) collided head-on with a Hiwa truck on National Highway-139 near Madhuban village in the Sadar block of Arwal district, Bihar, on Saturday.

The collision triggered panic at the scene, with residents rushing to rescue the victims.

According to police, the passenger tempo was travelling from Arwal to Parasi Bazaar carrying six people, including the driver. Near Madhuban village, a speeding Hiwa truck approaching from the opposite direction allegedly collided head-on with the tempo. The impact crushed the vehicle, leaving two occupants dead on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Amarjit Kumar (27), resident of Guli Bigha, Rajgir Ram (50), resident of Parasi, Manisha Devi (48), wife of Rajgir Ram, and Ramdayal Rajvanshi, resident of Bhadasi.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Sadar Hospital, Arwal, for post-mortem examinations.

Two passengers who sustained serious injuries are identified as Sunil Kumar (32), resident of Balopur in Kaler block, and Mahendra Ram (63), resident of Kamta village. After receiving initial treatment at Sadar Hospital, both were referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for specialised medical care.

Eyewitnesses said cries for help echoed across the area immediately after the crash. Residents, along with police and administrative officials, rescued the victims and shifted them to Sadar Hospital.

The accident caused a traffic jam on NH-139 for nearly an hour before police removed the damaged vehicles and restored traffic flow.

Scenes of grief unfolded outside the post-mortem unit of Sadar Hospital as family members gathered to receive the bodies of the deceased after legal formalities were completed.

Following the accident, several senior officials and public representatives reached Sadar Hospital to assess the situation, including Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Sanjeev Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kumar Sanjay, Janata Dal (United) State Secretary Manju Kumari, social activists Shah Faraz and Suaib Alam.

Officials reviewed the circumstances surrounding the accident and directed the concerned authorities to take the necessary administrative and legal action.

Police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the collision, while efforts are underway to ascertain whether factors such as speeding or negligence contributed to the fatal crash.(Agency)
