Fulfilling one of the major demands of the cantonment residents of having their fruit & vegetable market, MLA Pargat Singh has dedicated the new fruit & vegetable market at Partappura constructed at worth Rs. 2.28 Crore on Saturday morning.
Divulging the details, the MLA said that the project was completed within a record time frame of three months at the cost of Rs. 2.28 Crore, which includes a steel cover shed worth Rs. 85 Lakhs, a large platform (sitting area for vendors) worth Rs. 83 Lakhs, and parking place along with another platform worth Rs. 60 Lakhs.
The MLA further added that the new fruit & vegetable market would directly-indirectly benefit more than five thousand people with various employment opportunities that include farmers, vendors, commission agents, transporters, and others. After the inception of a new vegetable market at Partappura, a large number of people have become self-employed by starting their own business here, said the MLA.
He said that the fruit & vegetable market was started at Partappura during the Covid-19 pandemic in May 2020, with temporary operation at the grain market hitherto. As the new Mandi was ready now, the vendors, and other stakeholders to be shifted here at the earliest, he added.
He said that the farmers of Jalandhar Cantonment constituency, Nakodar, Kala Sanghia road, and Jandiala area would bring their produce here, which will benefit a large number of farmers, farm labourers, commission agents, and transporters. The MLA mentioned that earlier traders had to go to Maqsoodan Sabji Mandi to buy these essential commodities, which caused them a huge trouble.
Pointing out further, Chairman Market Committee Jalandhar Cantonment Harbhupinder Singh Samra said that the new fruit & vegetable market in Partappura was a dream project of MLA Pargat Singh, which was dedicated today. Samra said that the sitting areas will be allotted soon to the vendors besides thanking MLA Pargat Singh for giving this gift to the people of Jalandhar Cantonment constituency.
