Lucknow, June 2, 2023- In a distressing incident, a woman Air Force officer stationed at AFMC in Lucknow Cantonment has been deceived of Rs 23 lakh under the guise of marriage by an imposter claiming to be a London-based property dealer. The officer has promptly lodged a case with the police to seek justice.
According to her statement, she had been searching for a potential groom on a matrimonial site when she came across Dr. Amit Yadav, who posed as a foreign national. The accused manipulated her emotionally and promised to settle in India after marriage, convincing her to transfer money into his account for purchasing land in the country.
In her complaint, the victim disclosed, “We engaged in conversations, and he assured me of buying land in India. However, he later resorted to emotional blackmail, threatening suicide if I didn’t transfer the money. Helpless, I transferred Rs 23.5 lakhs to his account. But as soon as the transaction was complete, he cut off all communication.”
The woman further revealed that the imposter issued threats against her life, career, and services. Determined to take action, she reported the financial fraud to the concerned authorities, resulting in the freezing of the fraudster’s bank account. However, he manipulated her once again, persuading her to restore his account so he could repay the money. Unfortunately, after gaining her consent, he swiftly withdrew the funds and closed the account, leaving her in distress.
It was discovered that the accused had traveled to Delhi following the money transfer, as his mobile number remained active. The victim has filed a complaint with the Cyber Cell of Lucknow, seeking justice for the fraudulent act.
ACP Cantonment, Abhinav, stated that a thorough investigation is underway, and as per the standard procedure, the frozen funds have been secured. The authorities are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice and ensuring the victim’s financial recovery. (Agency)
