Former KAS Officer Shabbir Ahmed urges officials to preserve Hockey Astro Turf in Srinagar

Former KAS Officer and Down Town Hockey Club President, Shabbir Ahmed, has raised concerns over the utilization of the Hockey Astro Turf at Amar Singh College in Srinagar.

He emphasized the need for prompt action to ensure the astro turf is solely used for hockey-related activities, urging officials to prevent any misuse and maintain the facility for its intended purpose.

Highlighting the significance of the astro turf for national and international hockey competitions, Mr. Shabbir Ahmed expressed dismay over the observed instances of players engaging in football on the field. “This astro turf is designated for hockey matches only,” he added.

Calling for collaborative efforts among stakeholders, including the Secretary of Youth Services and Sports and the Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, Shabbir Ahmed stressed the importance of maximizing the potential of the astro turfs to support player development and foster healthy competition.

With a vision to enhance skill development and elevate the standard of sports, Mr. Shabbir Ahmed advocated for organizing inter-school and inter-college hockey competitions on the astro turfs.

He urged the Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University and the Director of Education to lead initiatives that harness the benefits of these facilities for the overall advancement of hockey in the region.

Mr. Shabbir Ahmed concluded by inviting the community to unite in creating a nurturing environment for young athletes, showcasing their talent on the astro turfs. His leadership and expertise as a former KAS officer underscore his commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and community development in the region.
