Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema has levelled serious allegations against the Amarinder Singh government of protecting cabinet minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, allegedly involved in the multi-crore Dalit students’ post-matric scholarship scam, adding Chief Minister was complicit in the scam.
He also alleged said that the Amarinder Singh government had launched a new scholarship scheme for the SC students, terming it as a mere cover up to distract peoples’ attention from the multi-crore scam, adding that the tainted minister Dharamsot be sacked immediately and arrested along with his henchmen involved in the scam.
He added that if Captain Amarinder Singh continued to procrastinate over the issue, the AAP government, if voted to power in 2022, would ensure that minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, along with his gang, was put behind the bars.
Cheema said this while addressing a press conference here on Tuesday along with other party MLAs, including Manjit Singh Bilaspur, Master Baldev Singh and Rajvinder Kaur, Atam Prakash Bablu.
Harpal Singh Cheema said that the present Amarinder Singh government in the state was following the footsteps of the previous Badal government, in ruining the future of millions of deserving children belonging to poor Dalit families, which reflected their anti-Dalit mentality their corruption-riddled dispensation, which had ended up in multi-crore scam.
He informed on the occasion that the post-matric scholarship scheme, known as the Dr. B.R Ambedkar Post-Matric Scholarship, had woken up the entire Dalit community in the state ahead of the elections due in 2022, adding that those behind this ‘loot’ would meet their nemesis in the battle of ballot.
The LoP alleged that the manner in which the Amarinder Singh government had given clean chit to Sadhu Singh Dharamsot involved in the Rs 64 crore scholarship scam clearly reflected that captain Amarinder Singh was directly involved in the open ‘loot’ of post matric scholarship amount belonging to the millions of deserving children of poor and dalits families, which was why he (Captain) running away from the High Court-monitored CBI probe into the scam.
Cheema demanded that the Captain government should arrange to immediately restore the whopping amount worth crores belonging to Dalit children under the scholarship scheme to the poor beneficiaries, failing which the AAP of formed the government in the state, would attach the assets of all these top notch scamsters and pay back to the Dalit students.
The AAP government would investigate not only the scams that took place during the current Captain government tenure but also the scams worth billions of rupees committed during the previous Badal government tenure.
Mounting a veiled attack on SAD supremo Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was now crying hoarse over the arrest Dharamsot, Harpal Singh Cheema said the name of Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike during their tenure had prominently figured not only in the post matric scholarship for Dalit students but also in the Shagun scheme scams.
