Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal stated that the war between Iran and Israel is dangerous for the entire world and called for its immediate cessation. In a press statement, he emphasized that war is not a solution to any problem.
Sant Seechewal urged the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, to take an effective role in halting the war and to promote the vision of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji for the welfare of all. He asserted that in a world sitting on a metaphorical powder keg, peace and stability can only be achieved through the principles and teachings of Baba Nanak.
Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal mentioned that Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji had delivered a message of humanity’s welfare and mutual harmony to the world during his four travels. He suggested that the countries of Asia, particularly those Guru Nanak Dev Ji visited during his journeys, should take the initiative in promoting peace.
He also appealed to the Indian government to play an active role in preventing the escalation of a global war by drawing on Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s philosophy. He urged major nations to abandon their quest for supremacy and instead work for the betterment of humanity by adopting a humanitarian outlook.
Sant Seechewal reiterated that no country can claim to be a superpower, as nature is the ultimate superpower. He warned that the destruction of natural resources caused by war cannot be undone. The missiles being launched in Israel and Iran will not only devastate these two countries but also pollute the air and harm people in distant regions.
Sant Seechewal pointed out that more than two and a half years have passed since the Russia-Ukraine war began, and there are still no signs of its end. Similarly, the conflict between Israel and Palestine shows no signs of abating, and now Iran has joined the fray while Israel continues to launch attacks on Lebanon.
These attacks have caused widespread devastation in Lebanon. Sant Seechewal expressed concern about the number of innocent lives being lost in these wars, noting that ordinary people have no interest in such conflicts. He called on major nations to take the lead in bringing an end to the Israel-Iran war.
