Trump to approach US Supreme Court after court blocks White House complex construction

Washington, August 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

US President Donald Trump said his administration will immediately approach the US Supreme Court after a federal appeals court blocked continued construction of a military and security complex at the White House.

Trump, in a post on Truth Social, said two appellate judges had ruled against what he described as a “desperately needed Military Center” that he claimed was essential to the national security of Washington and the United States.

“The decision has been stayed, and does not take effect for a period of time. We will be immediately appealing to the United States Supreme Court,” Trump said.

The President cited a dissent by Judge Neomi Rao, who argued that the lower court lacked jurisdiction because the plaintiff did not have standing to challenge the construction.

Rao described the lower court’s action as an abuse of discretion and said the balance of interests favoured the government. She argued that the court had placed the aesthetic concerns of a passerby above government security requirements and the risks associated with maintaining an open construction site at the President’s official residence and workplace.

Trump called the appellate ruling politically motivated and unlawful. He said the military and Secret Service considered the project important for national security and intended to protect the country and future presidents.

According to Trump, the proposed integrated complex would include bomb shelters, a hospital and medical facilities, classified military installations, protective barriers and missile-resistant steel. He also said the facility would feature drone-resistant ceilings and roofs, military-grade ventilation and glass designed to withstand bullets, ballistic impacts and blasts.

Trump argued that the ruling could put White House employees, future presidents and their families at risk, along with visiting heads of state, dignitaries and members of the public.

He said the secure ballroom component was progressing ahead of schedule and under budget and claimed it was being funded privately without taxpayer money.

“The entire Complex, Military and all, is largely built, fabricated, and paid for. Much is already on site, or being delivered,” Trump said, calling on the Supreme Court to overturn the decision.

Rao was appointed to the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit by Trump during his first presidential term. The Senate confirmed her in 2019 after her tenure as administrator of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.
