Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay met his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N. Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada on Tuesday to discuss river water sharing and proposed interlinking projects, including the Godavari–Cauvery link.
The meeting marked Vijay’s first visit to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh since assuming office as Chief Minister. Discussions focused on water-related issues between the two states, with Krishna water sharing among the key subjects taken up by the leaders.
Vijay arrived in Vijayawada aboard a private aircraft at around 3.45 p.m. Andhra Pradesh ministers received him on behalf of the state government before he proceeded with his scheduled engagements.
During the visit, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister also offered prayers at the Kanaka Durga Amman temple. He later met Naidu, who welcomed him with a bouquet before the two leaders held discussions on water sharing and river-linking proposals.
Andhra Pradesh’s Water Resources Minister, the state Chief Secretary and other senior officials attended the meeting. Tamil Nadu ministers Anand and Aadhav Arjuna accompanied Vijay and participated in the discussions with the Andhra Pradesh delegation.
The proposed Godavari–Cauvery interlinking project was among the issues discussed, alongside broader questions concerning the sharing of river waters between the neighbouring states.
However, no agreement or specific decision on the proposals was announced in the account of the meeting. Details regarding the positions taken by the two governments, possible follow-up consultations or a timeline for implementing any of the proposals were also not provided.
The meeting brought inter-state water management and river-linking plans into focus during Vijay’s first official visit to Andhra Pradesh as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
