Balwant Singh Rajoana, a convict in the case of the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, Friday announced the end of his hunger strike which he had started on December 5.
Rajoana’s decision came after a meeting with a high-level delegation led by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh.
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, who had sought to visit Patiala Jail to meet Rajoana on Thursday and was granted permission, Friday morning walked into the jail along with Keshgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Sultan Singh and SGPC Chief Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami.
Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh offered ‘Jal’ brought from the ‘Sarovar’ of Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar to Rajoana which he partook to end his hunger strike.
However, Rajoana insisted that the SGPC should withdraw a mercy petition filed in his case if the Central Government does not decide by December 31, 2023.
