The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Thursday has apprehended Gurbax Singh, posted as Registry Clerk cum-Reader to Naib Tehsildar Baba Bakala for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused was arrested based on a complaint lodged by Arpan Singh, a resident of village Dhanola Purana, tehsil Baba Bakala in Amritsar district.
He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged in his complaint, that the said accused had demanded Rs 30,000 for correction of name of his father in mutation of their ancestral land. The complainant further informed that the accused Clerk had already taken Rs 10,000 as first instalment for this motive.
He further added that after preliminary enquiry of this complaint the VB team laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed accepting second instalment of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB Police Station, Amritsar Range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and role of Naib Tehsildar would be probed during further investigation into this case, he said.
