Punjab University and Sapta Sindhu Nivedita Trust honor late Padma Shri Surjit Patar

In a heartfelt tribute held at the Law Auditorium of Punjab University, Punjab University and Saptasindhu Nivedita Trust organized the “Saptasindhu Patar Yadgari Samaroh” in memory of Punjab’s esteemed poet, Padma Shri Surjit Singh Patar ji.

The event was graced by the presence of Punjab Governor Shri Banwari Lal Purohit ji as the chief guest, with Vice Chancellor Renu Wig serving as the chairperson.

Special guests included Mrs. Bhupinder Kaur Patar, the wife of the late poet, his son Shri Manraj Patar, and his younger brother Shri Upkar Singh Patar. Together, they sang Shri Patar sahab’s compositions, evoking his enduring presence among the audience.

Punjab Governor Shri Banwari Lal Purohit praised Shri Surjit Patar ji’s significant contributions to literature, highlighting his unparalleled love for Punjabi culture.

The program commenced with tributes from five renowned international poets: Mr. Kumar Anupam, Mr. Chandra Bhan Khayal, Mr. Swarnjit Savi (Chairman, Punjab Art Council), Dr. Manmohan Singh (Retired IPS), and Mr. Jaswant Singh Zafar (Director, Language Department, Punjab).

Mr. Amarjit Singh Grewal (Punjabi thinker and critic) and Dr. Virendra Garg (Founder, Saptasindhu – Nivedita) shared personal memories of Mr. Patar, reflecting his profound impact on their lives and work.

Eminent personalities from various fields paid their respects to Patar ji and honored his family members. Notable attendees included Mr. Sarvesh Kaushal (Retd. IAS), Mr. Dharampal (Retd. IAS), Mr. Ishwar Singh, Dr. Suman Singh, Mr. Harish Jain (Unistar), Mr. Zora Singh (Vice Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University), Mr. Swarn Singh Salaria (Dubai), Mrs. Sapna Nanda, Mrs. Anita Kaushal, Mrs. Neeru Malik, Baba Bhupendra Singh, and Mr. Balraj Oberoi Baji.

More than 500 writers, poets, intellectuals, teachers, and admirers from Punjab gathered to express their love and respect for Shri Patar ji. The auditorium buzzed with emotion, resembling a mini Punjab, as people from every corner of the state came together to honor their beloved poet.

In memory of Shri Patar, the Saptasindhu team released a commemorative poster. Visiting authors and special guests were presented with sets of Patar Saheb’s books and posters. Mrs. Bhupinder Kaur Patar, Upkar Singh Patar, and Manraj Singh Patar expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming love and support from all sections of society.
