As part of the ongoing campaign to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per the vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police on Thursday launched a special operation with a focus on reviewing the security arrangements at all the financial institutions including Banks, Non-bank financial companies (NBFCs), Gold Loans and Money exchangers in both urban and rural areas.
The operation was conducted on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav.
Divulging details, Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla said that CPs/SSPs were directed to personally monitor this operation and depute sufficient number of Police teams under the supervision of gazetted rank officers to carry out this operation.
The police parties were directed to ensure deployment of security guards, besides, making sure that alarms and CCTV cameras are installed and functional at such vulnerable institutes, he added.
He said that the operation was conducted in all the 28 Police districts of the state and over 500 Police parties, involving over 2500 Police Personnel, under the supervision of SPs/DSPs checked as many as 3826 such financial institutions including 2516 banks, 389 NBFCs, 360 Gold Loans and 561 Money Exchangers across the state.
The Special DGP said that the major purpose to carry out this operation was to ensure foolproof security at the financial institutes which generally are the soft targets of the anti-social elements, besides, instilling a sense of safety and security among the common people.
He said that all the Police teams were asked to be polite and ensure minimum inconvenience to the common public while conducting this operation. Such operations would continue to make Punjab a crime-free state, he reiterated.
Meanwhile, Police teams have also checked suspicious people found roaming around banks and other financial institutions during the operation.
