Punjab Men Hockey team won the Gold in the Khelo India Youth Games in progress in Haryana.
According to Olympian Balwinder Singh Shammi, a member of Hockey Punjab’s ad hoc committee appointed by Hockey India, the Apex body for hockey in India, after the suspension of Hockey Punjab that today in finals of the Khelo India Youth Games-2021 in progress Haryana defeated Uttar Pradesh by 3-1 to clinch the title. The winners were leading by 1-0 till the lemon break.
Shammi said that it is the result of hard work of the players and coaches in the 15 days coaching camp before the team of Hockey Punjab which held under the supervision of the Ad-hoc Committee of the Hockey Punjab.
He further said that keeping in view the outstanding performance of the Punjab Hockey team, the Ad-hoc Committee of Hockey Punjab has decided to give a cash prize of Rs. 1.00 lakh alongwith composite hockey sticls & sports kits to each player. He said that this is the first time that the winning team of Punjab team is being awarded cash prize by the Ad-hoc Committee of Hockey Punjab.
In the meantime, Gurmel Singh, Hardeep Singh Neeta, Harpreet Singh Mander, Daljit Singh Dhillon, Davinder Singh Garcha, Baldev Singh, Brigadier Harcharan Singh (All Olympians), Nirmal Singh, Rajbir Kaur, Baldev Singh Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal, Jugraj Singh, Bikramjit Singh, Sukhjit Kaur (All International players), Baldev Singh Dronacharya awardee, Nitin Kohli , Surinder Singh Bhapa, Jagroop Singh Jharkhar and Kanwaljit Singh (Director, Khalsa Academy) congratulated the players and coaches of Punjab and also the members of the Hockey Punjab Ad-hoc Committee for giving Rs 1.00 lakh cash to the Punjab gold medal winning team.
