Punjab Guv Purohit stresses public participation in fight against drugs & arms trafficking across border

Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit on Tuesday, laid emphasis on the joint efforts of Police-Public to eradicate the menace of drugs and Arms/Ammunition Trafficking to save the youth and thwart the nefarious intentions across the border.

Interacting with the Sarpanches and Panches of the border villages at local Government MR College, the Governor of Punjab said that with the public participation and perfect coordination of all security agencies, we can stop the attempts made by the anti national elements to smuggle arms and drugs into our state with the intention of destabilizing India.

Terming the Six border districts of the state most sensitive, he further said that Pakistan had realized that it could not dare to initiate direct war with India, so the people on the other side of border had started targeting our youth by sending drugs and ammunition.

“We can thwart these tricks of the enemy if all the people remain vigilant and inform the police about those involved in these evil deeds”, said that Governor by adding that to save our youth, it was necessary to forget our local level differences for the sake of Unity and Integrity of Nation and work in tandem on this issue of national security.

Emphasizing on the need of Civil Security Committees at the village and ward levels, he said that these committees can be proved very effective to thwart the attempts of anti-social elements by keeping themselves vigilant of the nefarious activities of the enemy.

He said that since the starting of his tenure as the Governor of Punjab, he has been continuously working on this matter and success is also being achieved through the good coordination of security agencies, but public participation is also must.

He appealed to the sarpanches that they must cooperate in this task of National security because we are fighting to save our future generations. Appreciating the contribution of Punjabis in the freedom struggle and making the INDIA self-reliant in food grains, he said that we would definitely win this war against drugs with our joint efforts.

Taking up the problems of the border area residents, the Governor Banwari Lal Purohit assured that these grievances would be brought into the notice of Government of India for overall development of border belt. Launching the Mission ABAD-30 (Absolute Boarder Area Development) scheme prepared for the comprehensive development of 30 border villages by the Fazilka district administration, he expressed hope that the initiative would definitely be fruitful for the welfare of residents of 30 border villages.

Later on, interacting with the media, Governor of Punjab, Banwari Lal Purohit said that as per the demand of the farmers, more time had been accorded to them to work in their farms across the fencing at International boarder while the Government is also working on to resolve the other issues of the border areas residents.

Earlier, upon arriving here, the Chief Secretary, Vijay Kumar Janjua formally welcomed him and apprised him about the needs of the border area villages and also about the work being done by the administration in the border area villages.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himansu Aggarwal expressed vote of thanks and detailed about Mission ABAD-30 and project ‘KITAB’ in the district and explained how the district administration is working among the people of the border villages to improve their living standards.

Prominent among others present there included, MLA Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy, Narindra Pal Singh Sawna, Amandeep Singh Goldy Musafir, DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav, Principal Secretary to the Governor J M Balamurugan, SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu.
