The central government Saturday appointed Amit Kumar, a 2008-batch IAS officer from the Punjab Cadre, as the Commissioner of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation for a period of three years or until further notice.
The official order stated, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for the appointment of Amit Kumar, IAS (PB-2008), to the post of Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, UT of Chandigarh, on Inter-Cadre deputation from the Punjab Cadre to AGMUT Cadre, for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”
The post of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Commissioner had been vacant since the term of the previous Commissioner, Anindita Mitra, ended on August 22, which had impacted development work in the city.
