Prof Karamjeet Singh gets extension as Vice-Chancellor of JGND PSOU Patiala

Acting on the recommendation of the Punjab government, Punjab Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria has extended the tenure of Prof. Karamjeet Singh as Vice-Chancellor of Jagat Guru Nanak Punjab State Open University (JGND PSOU), Patiala for another three months.

An academician of repute Prof. Karamjeet Singh was appointed as founder Vice Chancellor of JGNDPSOU in September 2020 by Punjab Government for a three-year term.

In September 2023, he got extension for six months. Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (JGND PSOU), Patiala was conferred with Life Time Achievement Award (2023) for his significant contribution in the field of Education.

Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Founder Vice-Chancellor, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala (JGND PSOU) has introduced innovative programmes in the University.

Under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Karamjeet Singh, JGND PSOU has implemented NEP 2020 guidelines of University Grants Commission (UGC) and unique schemes of Government of Punjab. These include special schemes for employees, teachers, Divyangjan and jail inmates (Sikhyadaat).

The schemes implemented by the Vice Chancellor have benefited teaching and non-teaching staff across Punjab. The University has set up numerous Learner Support Centres and entered into significant MoUs, under his guidance, for promotion of Open Distance Learning (ODL).

During the tenure of Prof. Karamjeet Singh as Vice Chancellor JGND PSOU has secured several research grants. The research activities conducted include: 6-month Minor Project by ICSSR, New Delhi on “Developing Millet Value- Chain for Sustainable Agroecology of Punjab.” ; Major project by State Council of Educational Training and Research, Punjab worth Rs 6,38,000 entitled: “Impact of Smart School in improving Access,

Equity and Quality in School Education.” ; Major project by State Council of Educational Training and Research,

Punjab worth Rs 6,29,640 entitled: “Impact Of Community Involvement In Improving Enrollment And School Attendance: A Study Of Punjab.” and Seminar Grant (Rs. 60000) from ICSSR NWRC, Panjab University, Chandigarh. JGND PSOU has adopted five villages under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan. Recently, faculty members of the University have also secured UGC’s Text Book Writing project (Punjabi Language) initiated by Bhartiya Bhasha Samvardhan Samiti for UG and PG programmes.

The University, under the visionary guidelines of Prof. Karamjeet Singh has conducted various seminars, symposia, conference and workshops. These include: Expert Speaks@ JGND PSOU, JGND PSOU Chetna Series, National workshop on Lifestyle for the Environment, awareness programmes on Anti-Ragging Day/ Week, Electoral processes, Special Sessions on MOOCs, Discussion Forum Sessions,

National Seminar on Sustainable Development FDP on Universal Human Values (UHV), National workshop to mark Viksit Bharat@2047, Intellectual Property Rights Awareness session, Constitution Day, Swachhata hi Seva Campaign Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta Ek Saath, National Seminar on “Happiness and Well-being”, Role of Media in Digital Era.
