Ms Dhanashree Mhatre, a Ph.D Biotechnology student at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has been conferred with the “Best Poster Award” during the 3rd International Wheat Congress (IWC) 2024, held at Perth Convention Centre, Western Australia, from September 22-27. This biennial event for 2024 was hosted by the Centre for Crop and Food Innovation (CCFI) of Murdoch University, Australia in collaboration with the Wheat Initiative.
The event was attended by 870 delegates from 52 countries including more than 30 scientists from India. The award was presented by the esteemed wheat scientists, namely, Dr Peter Langridge, Chair of the Scientific Board of International Wheat Initiative Program, and Rajeev Varshney, Director, CCFI.
Ms Dhanashree presented her research on “Exploring alien introgressions from wild germplasm utilising genomics approaches to enhance rust resistance in wheat.” Competing about 400 other presenters, her work was recognized for its innovative approach and scientific rigor.
Dr Satinder Kaur, Major Advisor of the student, highlighted that this research work met the international standards, earning Ms Dhanashree a well-deserved recognition on global scientific stage.
Dr Parveen Chhuneja, Director, School of Agricultural Biotechnology, who also attended the event, praised the excellent work presented by Ms Dhanashree. She said, “It was a proud moment for me and other Indian delegates to witness Ms Dhanashree receive an award at such a significant event.”
Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, and Dr Manav Indra Singh Gill, Dean, Postgraduate Studies, congratulated Ms Dhanashree for bringing laurels to the University through this prestigious global recognition. “Her achievement is a testament to the high-quality research and dedication present at PAU,” said PAU VC.
