Ludhiana, August 8, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)
In a bid to enhance farmers-scientists’ connect, promote the latest crop varieties as well as agricultural technologies, provide onsite and offsite solutions to agrarian issues, and supply quality seed of rabi season crops and farm literature, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has geared up its efforts to hold the series of seven Kisan Melas in September 2024.
Releasing the itinerary of the melas, Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, informed that the melas will kick start with the first Kisan Mela at Nag Kalan, Jahangir, Amritsar on September 3, followed by the melas at Ballowal Saunkhri on September 6 and Faridkot on September 10.
The two-day Kisan Mela is slated to be held at PAU campus, Ludhiana on September 13 and 14, he said. Besides, the melas at Gurdaspur, Rauni (Patiala) and Bathinda will be organised on September 18, 24 and 27, respectively, he added.
Expressing deep concern over the farm challenges being confronted by the farmers, Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, underlined the need for warding off the problems of the agricultural community on priority basis.
“The water depletion at a fast rate is a daunting challenge for the Punjab, which if not dealt with now, can turn the entire state into desert in the coming years. Witnessing the hazardous effects of on-going water devastation, it is the real time to save the Punjab from drowning,” he observed.
Keeping this in view, the University has been creating on-field and off-field awareness regarding natural resource conservation, he added.
The upcoming melas will also cater to the environmental needs of the Punjab state as well as its agriculture by spreading the message through its theme “Save nature resources, be happy and prosperous (Kudarati somey bachao, sab laiye khushali liyao,” he said.
