Representing the Indian IVF specialists, a Patiala-based Gynaecologist Dr. Monica Varma has presented her research project based on protocol for preparing the uterus for frozen embryo transfer in IVF patients at the Annual Meet of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) held at Amsterdam, Netherlands.
It was for the sixth year in a row Dr Varma presented her clinical work in IVF at the ESHRE Annual Meet. Pertinently, ESHRE holds the largest In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) conference in the world attended by about 11,000 experts annually.
This year, 800 research papers were accepted worldwide, one of them was by Dr Monica Varma, a renowned gynaecologist and IVF expert from Patiala.
Dr Monica Varma, who along with her team has been working on this research project for the last two years, said that they have evolved an easy and successful protocol and have proven its safety by determining a hormone – Relaxin 2 levels in pregnancy.
She said that this is a simple, safe and successful protocol of IVF has been thus suggested for the first time, which lowers the risk for complications in the mother and child during IVF pregnancies. It was much appreciated by the experts, she added.
Meanwhile, an IVF is a process of fertilisation where an egg is combined with a sperm outside the body, commonly called a test-tube baby. It involves monitoring and stimulating a woman’s ovulatory process, removing the ova from her ovaries, and fertilising them with the sperms outside in a culture medium in the laboratory.
