The players of the Indian hockey team, who returned to the country after winning the Bronze medal in the Paris Olympics 2024, today arrived to pay obeisance at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib.
On this occasion, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, honoured the hockey players with a golden model of Sri Harmandar Sahib, religious books and Siropao (robe of honour) at the information center of Sri Darbar Sahib.
Speaking to the media on this occasion, SGPC President Advocate Dhami said that it is a matter of honour and pride for us that whenever there has been solid participation of players from Punjab in the Indian hockey team, the team has made great achievements. Winning a bronze medal in the Paris Olympics is also one of them.
He congratulated the hockey players for this achievement and prayed for more big achievements in the future. He said that the players of Punjab, part of the team, have repeated the history related to hockey of Punjab after a long period.
Advocate Dhami while addressing the youth said that they should take inspiration from the Punjabi players in the country’s hockey team and come forward in sports.
Advocate Dhami said that the Sikh organization SGPC has always been encouraging the sportsmen and in the future also the youth will be encouraged to increase the pride of Punjab and Sikhs.
He especially mentioned the Sabat Soorat (with unshorn hair) Sikh player Jarmanpreet Singh who played for the Indian hockey team and encouraged the players belonging to Sikh families to maintain their Sikh identity.
Speaking to the media on this occasion, captain of the hockey India team Harmanpreet Singh said that he felt blessed to pay obeisance at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib with the team players today.
He said that this achievement was possible by the team only due to the blessings of Guru Sahib and he prayed for better performance for the team in the future. He expressed his gratitude for the respect and honour received from the SGPC.
On this occasion, SGPC Member Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, secretary Partap Singh, assistant secretary Jaswinder Singh Jassi, Shahbaz Singh, Harbhajan Singh Vakta, superintendent Nishan Singh, manager Satnam Singh Riar, Rajinder Singh Ruby, information officer Amritpal Singh, Randhir Singh, SGPC hockey coach Gurmeet Singh were present.

The nine players of the Indian hockey team who arrived at Sri Harmandar Sahib for paying obeisance included captain Harmanpreet Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, Manpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Hardik Singh, Sukhjit Singh, Gurjant Singh, Shamsher Singh, and Jugraj Singh. Apart from this, the coach of the team and the family members of the players were also with them.
