China’s supply chain dominance likely to be hit by tech leap in West

China Flag

New Delhi, May 10, 2026

China is currently leveraging its driven by its dominance in critical minerals inputs required for the production in sectors such as New Energy Vehicles (NEV) to gain a geopolitical advantage through its capability to disrupt global supply chains.

However, according to an article in The Diplomat, this advantage is likely to be overturned in the near future with the leap in new technology that is taking place in Western countries, with companies such as US tech giant Tesla forging ahead with new battery technology and driverless vehicles.

The article states that the only major manufacturing sector in which China has a genuine prospect of leading and maintaining global competitiveness is the NEV industry. Other sectors, such as semiconductors or robotics, hold significant prestige and offer some hope of achievement, but China’s offerings remain far behind the international standard.

However, while China’s NEV sector rises, Western technological advancements are bringing in new upgrades that threaten to render existing NEV supply chains obsolete, as per the article.

It highlights that new battery technologies will determine who commands the post-upgrade future market.

There is also the competition over integrated manufacturing costs. While Chinese manufacturing had previously secured a relative advantage, this edge is constantly at risk of being blunted by electric carmaker Tesla, which is using high-density production lines to reduce costs, which can potentially outcompete Chinese NEV manufacturing. Besides, Tesla has a big lead in driverless vehicle technology, which will represent “a revolutionary leap forward”, it said.

These three technological advancements are seen as having the potential to render China’s current supply chain strategy ineffective.

“Based on average industrial cycles, we estimate a window of three to five years. In other words, China’s current advantages within specific segments of the supply chain are likely to erode within that timeframe. Unless China can consistently achieve meaningful breakthroughs in technological advancement, the window of opportunity remains remarkably narrow,” the article observed.(Agency)

Bengaluru, May 10, 2026

The Art of Living Founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Sunday hailed the remarkable and transformational change that the nation has undergone in the past 10 years, so much so as to give it a new identity and reshape its destiny. He credited the NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this momentous change.

The eulogical remarks about the Modi dispensation from the spiritual leader came during the inauguration of the Dhyan Mandir in Bengaluru.

“From Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan to elimination of red terror, the country has found a new identity in the global growth index besides improving lives and livelihoods at the ground level. The country is cleaner, beautiful, safer and peaceful today,” Sri Sri Ravi Shankar told the gathering.

“For decades, the foreign powers used to laugh at India and believed that such generational change would never happen here. But, today, India has become a nation which believes in giving rather than accepting,” he added.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the newly built Dhyan Mandir at the Art of Living Foundation International Centre in Bengaluru on Sunday, to mark the 45th anniversary celebrations of the organisation and also the 70th birthday celebrations of spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

The event saw a gathering of scores of spiritual leaders and dignitaries, with PM Modi highlighting the role of spirituality, youth empowerment and social participation in nation-building.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar also praised the Modi government’s efforts in shifting the Ram Lalla from a makeshift temple to a permanent and sprawling abode.

“For many years, Shri Ram resided in a tent in Ayodhya. You removed all the obstacles and took the initiative to build a grand temple. You paid attention to every intricate carving and every aspect of the work, giving India a magnificent Shri Ram Temple,” he said.

“You are a great son of Mother India, and a beloved and respected figure to us all. You have impacted every facet of crores of citizens. You have vigorously championed India’s ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family) on the global stage and have elevated the nation to a distinct level of excellence—a feat of which we are immensely proud,” he further told the audience, extolling the Prime Minister.

Earlier, PM Modi also extended birthday wishes to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and said that he hoped to attend the spiritual leader’s centenary celebrations in the future.

“Today is Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s 70th birthday. When the centenary celebrations take place, I will come again to join them,” PM Modi said.(Agency)

‘Show stealer’: Co-star Trisha in spotlight at TN swearing in ceremony as Vijay’s wife, kids absent

Trisha-Krishnan-Actress

Chennai, May 10, 2026

Actor and long-time co-star Trisha Krishnan emerged as one of the most talked-about personalities at the oath ceremony of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief C. Joseph Vijay as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on Sunday, with her presence generating intense buzz both at the venue and across social media platforms.

The grand ceremony, held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium here, marked a historic moment in Tamil Nadu politics as Vijay formally assumed office, ending decades of alternating rule by the DMK and AIADMK.

While political leaders, film personalities, party workers and thousands of supporters gathered to witness the occasion, much of the public attention shifted toward Trisha.

Trisha arrived at the venue along with her mother, Uma Krishnan, dressed in an elegant ice-blue silk Kanjeevaram saree paired with a diamond-and-ruby choker necklace. She was seen greeting Vijay’s family members, including his sister, and interacting warmly with several guests seated in the front rows.

Her appearance quickly became a major talking point online, with fans and entertainment media describing her as the “show-stealer” of the ceremony.

Many social media users highlighted the nostalgic association between Vijay and Trisha, who have shared screen space in several successful films and have frequently been linked through dating rumours over the years.

At the same time, the absence of Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, and their children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha, triggered widespread discussion on social media.

Several users described the occasion as emotionally incomplete without the presence of Vijay’s immediate family members.

“The family that should have been at the centre of attention today is absent,” one social media user wrote, while others expressed sympathy for Vijay’s wife and children.

The discussions come against the backdrop of Vijay and Sangeetha’s ongoing divorce proceedings. Sangeetha had filed for divorce earlier this year before the Chengalpattu Family Welfare Court after 27 years of marriage, reportedly citing infidelity and mental distress. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for June 15.

Despite the online speculation surrounding his personal life, Vijay remained focused on his political transition, taking oath before Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar amid loud cheers from supporters and party cadres.(Agency)

Chandranath Rath murder probe: Car used by miscreants brought from Jharkhand, says Bengal Police

Chandranath Rath Shot Dead

Kolkata, May 10, 2026

As the investigation into the murder of Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, is underway the investigators say the car used in the murder was brought from Jharkhand and money was sent online from that car, a senior police officer said on Sunday.

The search for the accused is underway based on that source. However, no one has been arrested yet.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by the West Bengal Police to investigate Chandranath’s murder.

It also includes police officers from the Special Task Force (STF) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Intelligence department of the state police.

Representatives of the investigation team have gone to Uttar Pradesh to search for the accused.

The investigators are hopeful that all these sources will soon lead to Chandranath’s killer and the culprits will be caught quickly.

At the same time, the police have collected CCTV footage from the Bali toll plaza which is being examined.

Since the money was paid online through UPI, efforts are being made to collect more information from there.

According to police officers, several people are being questioned in connection with the murder case.

Chandranath was shot dead in Madhyamgram of North 24 Parganas district on the night of May 6.

A four-wheeler came in front of Chandranath’s car following which his car stopped.

At that time, miscreants came riding on two bikes from both sides and fired gunshots at Chandranath and his driver due to which the personal assistant of Suvendu Adhikari died on the spot.

Chandranath’s driver is still in the hospital.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has levelled allegations against the Trinamool Congress in the incident. However, Trinamool has issued a statement condemning the incident and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation under the supervision of the court.

According to the police, the plan to kill Chandranath had been hatched at least a month and a half ago.

It is being seen who could have had a reason to kill him at that time, and whether Chandranath had a quarrel with anyone.

The police confiscated the car used in the murder on the day of the incident.

The number plate on the car is fake following which two bikes of the miscreants were also recovered.

According to the police, the number plates of these bikes are also fake. This was done with the intention of misleading the investigation.(Agency)

Sally Field credits Jack Nicholson for reviving her career

Los Angeles, May 10, 2026

Hollywood actress Sally Field has revealed that acting legend Jack Nicholson helped get her career going again after she hit a roadblock.

The actress expressed her displeasure for her breakout, titular role in ‘The Flying Nun’ and how the road ahead looked smeared with uncertainty, reports ‘Deadline’.

After starring in ABC’s hit fantasy sitcom from 1967 to 1970, the actress said she “couldn’t get in a room to audition. I couldn’t get on the list. They thought they already knew what I was. ‘No, thanks. We don’t want any of that’”.

She recalled thinking at the time that “I had to say to myself that if I wasn’t where I wanted to be, I had to get better”.

Though the entertainment industry can often be “rotten” and “unfair, it had to be that it was on me to make it different. I felt if I wasn’t doing that, then I was just handing them all the power”.

As per ‘Deadline’, the ‘Forrest Gump’ star began studying at the famed Actors Studio under founder and coach Lee Strasberg, alongside such performers like Nicholson. At the time, she believed her situation would change only “when I’m good enough”.

‘The Shining’ actor, who saw her work with Strasberg and put in a good word with late casting director Dianne Crittenden and director Bob Rafelson, called her an “undiscovered talent”.

The pair granted her an “interview,” her first since her 1965 TV debut ‘Gidget’, for ‘Stay Hungry’, a dramedy starring Jeff Bridges and an early-career Arnold Schwarzenegger.

She said, “So in some weird way, my theory was right. I worked at the Actors Studio for so long, and it was so hard, that Jack had seen it and the word spread”.

The film marked “the beginning of the change” in her Hollywood career, cementing her as a movie star and catapulting her to eventually iconic roles.(Agency)

Khushi Kapoor remembers mom Sridevi with some unseen pics with the legend

Mumbai, May 10, 2026

Actress Khushi Kapoor remembered her late mother and legendary actress Sridevi on Mother’s Day this Sunday.

The ‘Loveyapa’ actress took to the Stories section of her official Instagram handle and uploaded a black-and-white collage of some of her fond memories with her mom.

In one of the photos, a young Khushi was seen with her arms around her mother. This was followed by another picture of a baby Khushi with the ‘Mr India’ actress.

In the end was a more recent still of Sridevi and Khushi posing for the camera together.

For those who do not know, Sridevi tied the knot with producer Boney Kapoor back in 1996.

Before his wedding to Sridevi, Boney was married to Mona Kapoor, with whom he has two children, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor.

However, after several years of marriage to Mona, Boney went on to tie the knot with Sridevi and welcomed two daughters, Khushi and Janhvi, both of whom are active in the industry.

Unfortunately, Sridevi suddenly passed away at the age of 54 in 2018 in Dubai after an accidental drowning

Just like Khushi, Boney also keeps on revisiting special moments with his late superstar wife, Sridevi, and the kids.

In April, the filmmaker published a throwback picture from their family trip to L.A, when Janhvi was just one year old.

The click had Sridevi flaunting her smile as she held little Janhvi in her arms, with Boney standing behind them.

“In L A. My love holding our love janu , who was just 1 year old,” Boney wrote.

On the work front, Khushi is reported to be working on the sequel to Sridevi’s 2017 release “Mom”. She will be seen working alongside ‘Scoop’ actress Karishma Tanna, marking their first on-screen collaboration.

Directed by Girish Kohli, the project is being produced by Boney Kapoor.(Agency)

‘Will be watched like a hawk’: Praises pour in for Tamil Nadu CM Vijay

Vijay TVK Leader

Chennai, May 10, 2026

From locals to actors, praises poured in for the newly sworn-in Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President C. Joseph Vijay. At the same time, people hoped that the promises made by the debutant party will be delivered as the new government will be “watched like a hawk”.

Extending his best wishes to the Chief Minister and the other Ministers, a local said: “Everyone’s going to be watching you (Vijay) like a hawk, because there are so many promises that you’ve come to deliver.”

He added that the state is under “heavy debt” and that women’s safety, drug menace and lack of job opportunities are major issues in the state.

Praising the TVK Chief, the local said: “He (Vijay) is a star of the true order and a real-life hero.”

“I hope all the promises that he has made will be delivered,” he added.

However, he cautioned: “I am going to be raising questions every time they (TVK) are unable to deliver so that the new government can be kept in check.”

While expressing his happiness on TVK MLA S. Keerthana taking oath as a Minister, he said: “I hope there are sufficient women representation in the expanded Cabinet, as well as representation from marginalised communities.”

The local praised Chief Minister Vijay for delivering the first three promises.

Actress and model Sanam Shetty emphasised that TVK emerged as the largest party “without any alliance”.

She said: “Vijay is the only actor who has won and been elected as CM in his very first attempt. This is not just beginner’s luck as many people say. His services for Tamil Nadu people started long back though it didn’t come to limelight then.”

She called Vijay’s achievement as a “step by step transition”.

“What we are witnessing today is the success of not Vijay sir’s stardom but his service,” she added.

Shetty highlighted that her support for TVK has not been unconditional, rather she has monitored every step and promises made by the party.

“Being a new party, they have a clean slate and a lot of potential,” she said.

The actress asserted that it is the intention that matters in serving the public.

A local, who also attended the swearing-in ceremony, referred to Chief Minister Vijay as a “very good person” who will do “good work”.

“He has picked worthy people as Ministers,” she said.

The local woman expressed confidence that with CM Vijay at the helm, nobody will engage in any sort of misdeed in the government.

“We even thank his (Chief Minister Vijay’s) parents for raising such a boy,” she said.

Actress Sangeetha also congratulated the new Chief Minister.

“Should be a good time (for Tamil Nadu),” she told reporters.(Agency)

Delhi L-G TS Sandhu flags road indiscipline causing accidents, asks citizens to follow rules

Taranjit Singh Sandhu says

New Delhi, May 10, 2026

Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Sunday urged city residents and visitors to the National Capital to follow traffic rules to prevent accidents, jams, and reduce pollution.

In a message on social media, Sandhu said collective efforts can help build a jam-free and safe city. His impassioned appeal to maintain order on roads came in the backdrop of a fatal accident on Saturday night in which a speeding car killed two men on a motorcycle in east Delhi’s Karawal Nagar.

“My earnest appeal to all Delhi residents and those visiting here is that you cooperate with @dtptraffic in making the national capital a city with safe, smooth, and well-managed traffic,” said the Lieutenant Governor in a post on X.

“Following traffic rules not only helps prevent traffic jams and accidents on the roads but also aids in reducing air pollution. Doing so is in the interest of Delhi and its residents, and it is our fundamental responsibility,” he said.

Sandhu stressed the link between traffic rules and safety. “I appeal to all citizens that you refrain from driving in the wrong direction, jumping red lights, and crossing roads in ways that endanger lives. Proper parking of vehicles, as well as the use of helmets and seat belts, is essential not only for smooth traffic but also for the safety of our loved ones,” he said.

He also encouraged citizens to report traffic violations on the latest app of the traffic police. “I have directed the Delhi Traffic Police to further expand the campaign for strict enforcement in the national capital. Your participation is crucial in strengthening this road safety campaign. All of you can report violations of traffic rules through the ‘Traffic Prahari’ app and earn rewards for your vigilance,” he said.

“If we collectively resolve to follow traffic rules, it is possible to build a jam-free and safe Delhi. In the creation of a beautiful and well-managed capital, I expect the combined efforts and support of all of you,” Sandhu added.(Agency)

CPI asks why state song ‘Tamil Thai Vaazhthu’ was pushed to third place at Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony

CPI ML New Democracy Party Logo

Chennai, May 10, 2026

The Communist Party of India (CPI) criticised the conduct of the swearing-in ceremony of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Sunday, questioning why the state song ‘Tamil Thai Vaazhthu’ was relegated to third place during the event, instead of the first.

In a strongly-worded statement, CPI State Secretary M. Veerapandian said it was against the long-standing convention in Tamil Nadu to allow the rendering of ‘Vande Mataram’ during a government ceremony before giving primacy to the Tamil invocation.

“The Tamil invocation must always be accorded priority in Tamil Nadu government functions. Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam should ensure that what happened during the swearing-in ceremony is not repeated in future,” he said.

Veerapandian maintained that the established practice in the state has been to begin official functions with the ‘Tamil Thai Vaazhthu’, followed by the national anthem at the conclusion of the programme.

According to him, introducing ‘Vande Mataram’ in between disrupted the accepted protocol traditionally followed in Tamil Nadu’s political and administrative events.

Veerapandian further stated that when newly-elected MLAs take oath in the Assembly, the Tamil invocation should be rendered first and the national anthem later, adding that the same practice must continue in all official government programmes.

He also argued that ‘Vande Mataram’, being a song associated with a deity, could not be treated on par with the national anthem.

The CPI leader stressed that Tamil identity and linguistic pride have historically occupied a central place in Tamil Nadu’s political culture and should be respected by every government, irrespective of political affiliation.

The criticism assumes significance as the CPI was among the parties that extended support to Vijay-led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) after the Assembly election results produced a fractured mandate.

Vijay’s alliance eventually crossed the majority mark of 118 in the 234-member Assembly after receiving backing from the Congress, the CPI, the CPI-M, the VCK, and the IUML, taking the coalition’s strength to 120 MLAs. Vijay was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday morning by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar in the presence of senior political leaders, film personalities and thousands of supporters.(Agency)
