Bengal assault case: Daughter of arrested BJP leader files counter complaint claiming molestation

Handcuff Arrested

Kolkata, Oct 28, 2025
After BJP leader Rakesh Singh and his children were arrested in connection with an assault case in West Bengal, his minor daughter on Tuesday filed a counter-complaint of molestation against the son of the flat owner, on whose complaint her father was held.

The police said flat owner Chandu Khan’s son has been arrested, based on a complaint lodged by the BJP leader’s daughter.

Kasba Police said that all the arrested will be produced in court later in the day, where police custody of the accused will be sought.

According to sources, the police are investigating whether Rakesh Singh’s minor daughter also had any role in the incident on Monday.

“We have received a counter-complaint today. The BJP leader’s daughter has made the complaint. The accused has been arrested on charges of molestation. We are investigating both incidents. Separate cases have been registered. Investigation is on,” said a senior officer of Kolkata Police.

Kolkata Police arrested Rakesh Singh and his son on charges of going on a rampage inside a housing complex in the Kasba area of Kolkata on Monday.

The police had also detained the minor daughter of the BJP leader over the same charge.

According to flat owner Chandu Khan’s son Rajarshi Khan, “Rakesh Singh has a flat on the fourth floor. He has forcibly occupied our flat on the third floor. He has kept his belongings there. I have repeatedly asked him to remove the belongings.

But, he did not remove them. We were taking the workers today and putting their belongings down because we were paying rent. Then eight to nine people came and beat my father and brother. They had firearms in their hands. They beat them with gun butts. My father had to be admitted to the hospital. They also attacked me with a knife.”

However, the daughter has now filed a molestation case against the son of the flat owner.

In September, Rakesh Singh was arrested for vandalism at the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) office in central Kolkata. Later, he was released on bail.(Agency)

Counter intelligence wing of J&K CID saves two teenagers from terror trap

Srinagar, Oct 28, 2025
The Counter Intelligence Kashmir wing (CIK) of Jammu and Kashmir CID said on Tuesday that it has saved two teenagers from falling into the trap of terrorism through online radicalisation.

A statement by the intelligence wing said on Tuesday, “CIK has foiled an online radicalisation plot and has prevented two teenage boys from falling into the terror trap.”

CIK has once again demonstrated its exceptional professional competence, cyber intelligence skills, and social outreach capabilities by dismantling a digital radicalisation network operating through multiple social media platforms.

“The timely operation not only neutralised the propaganda machinery of a terrorist outfit but also safeguarded two impressionable young boys from being recruited into terrorism,” the statement read.

Acting on precise intelligence inputs and sustained cyber surveillance, CIK identified two radical social media handles – ‘faithful_warrior57’ and ‘Gurkboru.08’ engaged in glorifying terrorism and circulating extremist narratives.

These accounts were actively sharing propaganda material, including audio clips and digital content of known terrorists, designed to sow discord, promote secessionist sentiment, and attract vulnerable youth toward violent extremism.

After detailed technical analysis, the operators of these accounts were identified as: Hashim Mashood Lone, son of Mashood Ahmad Lone, resident of Khawjabagh, Maloora, aged about 17 years and Mohammad Hazik Ahanger, son of Farooq Ahmad Ahanger, resident of Railway Colony, Nowgam, aged about 15 years.

Both individuals were traced, apprehended for questioning and found to be juveniles. Digital forensic examination of Hashim’s mobile device established him as the user of ‘Gurkboru.08’, and evidence revealed he was disseminating terror content under the direct guidance of an online handler.

“Investigations further disclosed that he had been using encrypted communication tools and VPNs to sustain covert interaction with cross-border handlers. Subsequent inquiry traced the online handler operating under the alias ‘Saqib’ (real name Ahmad Salar), a Pakistan-based propagandist linked to The Resistance Front (TRF). Salar was orchestrating a sophisticated online indoctrination effort, exploiting social media to manipulate vulnerable youth through ideological grooming, false promises and glorification of terrorist activities,” it said.

The second juvenile, ‘Hazik’, operating the handle ‘faithful_warrior57’, was similarly influenced by the same handler.

Digital traces revealed instructions, emotional manipulation, and ideological conditioning intended to draw both minors deeper into extremist networks.

“Through meticulous coordination, superior cyber analytics, and swift operational execution, CIK successfully disrupted the network, effectively preventing the recruitment of two juveniles and thwarting an emerging radicalisation threat that could have endangered community safety,” the statement read.

Recognising the social dimension of this threat, CIK held joint counselling sessions involving the families of juveniles, community elders, and local religious scholars.

“These sessions aimed to help the youth and their guardians understand the grave repercussions of radicalisation and the importance of responsible digital engagement. The initiative underscored CIK’s compassionate approach, combining operational excellence with social responsibility and strengthened community cooperation against extremist exploitation,” the statement added.(Agency)

Fake ‘acid attack’: Delhi Police gives clean chit to 3 ‘accused’; woman, kin under scanner for staging incident

New Delhi, Oct 28, 2025
Delhi Police has given a virtual clean chit to a painter and two others accused by a woman of throwing acid on her in North Delhi’s Ashok Vihar last week, Special Commissioner of Police Ravindra Singh Yadav said on Tuesday.

Yadav expressed satisfaction over preventing injustice being meted out to the three “innocents” as the alleged attack has turned out to be an incident staged by the complainant woman and her family to settle scores with the “suspects”.

Yadav told IANS that technical analysis, CCTV footage and physical evidence proved that the three accused were not at the spot where the alleged “acid attack” took place on October 26 near Laxmi Bai College.

“It has turned out to be a case of old enmity related to a plot owned by the father of the woman who levelled false allegations of ‘acid attack’ on the accused,” he said.

The Special Commissioner of Police said the investigation is still underway but prima facie the conspiracy was hatched by the 20-year-old woman, her father, brother and uncle to try and implicate the three men in a false case of “acid attack”.

The two families have a history of litigation and criminal complaints against each other.

Investigators also revealed that the “acid attack” victim’s father Akil Khan, 45, now under custody, was accused of sexual harassment by the painter Jitender’s wife a few days before the October 26 staged episode of ‘acid attack’.

Yadav said the police are seeking legal opinion on the next step as the matter involves two separate issues.

“One, is the ‘acid attack’ and, the other, is the allegation of rape against the father of the ‘acid attack’ victim,” he said.

Yadav said, “For the time being, it is a matter of satisfaction for the police to have foiled the conspiracy by the woman’s family to implicate three innocent people.”

He said the police will now consider acting against the woman’s family for filing a false case.

Yadav said an investigation is still on to verify the woman’s statement that she and her family members had carried toilet cleaner from home to stage the ‘acid attack’ and subsequently report at a hospital with ‘acid attack burns’ on her hands.

The Special Commissioner of Police said they will soon share details of the alleged roles played by the family members of the woman in staging the ‘acid attack’ and attempting to implicate painter Jitender and his two aides, Ishan and Arman.

Yadav said in matters related to crimes against women the police promptly register a case on receiving a complaint and this is what happened in this matter. A case under Sections 124(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered as FIR No. 605/2025 on the woman’s complaint which named the three ‘suspects’.

However, investigations revealed that the allegation against the three “acid attackers” were false and they were physically not present on the spot where the incident was staged, the police said.(Agency)

If Surya gets some runs, he can completely destroy the opposition, says Parthiv Patel

Suryakumar-Yadav-Indian-Cricket

New Delhi, Oct 28, 2025
As India prepare to face Australia in a high-stakes T20I series as part of preparations for next year’s T20 World Cup, former wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel believes it will be very beneficial for the visitors if captain Suryakumar Yadav rediscovers his form and ends his lean run with the bat.

Widely regarded as one of the most destructive batters in the shortest format, Suryakumar has faced a challenging period – as evidenced by him scoring only 72 runs during India’s victorious Asia Cup campaign in the UAE.

In 2025, Suryakumar has scored just 100 runs across 11 innings and hasn’t made a fifty in his last 14 T20Is. Since taking over the captaincy last year after Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the format following the T20 World Cup win, Suryakumar has accumulated 330 runs in 20 matches, which is concerning for a player of his calibre.

“More than the personal thing, I feel it’s important that Surya finds form for the team. Basically, we know what he can do as a batter. If he gets runs, he can completely destroy the opposition. So from that point of view, I feel that if Surya gets some runs, it will be very helpful for the team,” Patel, a JioStar expert, told IANS during a virtual media day ahead of the first T20I, to be played at Canberra’s Manuka Oval on Wednesday.

India are coming on the back of winning their last nine bilateral T20I series and have won seven of their past eight games against Australia in the shortest format, including a current three-game streak against the Mitchell Marsh-led side.

For most Indian batters, how they adapt and respond to the extra bounce that Australian pitches offer, especially with significantly larger boundaries, would make for a fascinating watch. Patel believes India should stick to their aggressive batting style that has consistently brought them success.

“I don’t think India needs to change their approach at all. You change your approach or try to rectify something if it has gone wrong. I think India has been playing fantastic cricket in the last few years, especially in this format. So, I don’t see India needs to change anything. I know the conditions are different. You just have to get used to the conditions and keep backing yourself,” he said.

Drawing parallels with India’s series win in South Africa last year, Patel elaborated, “See, when you are playing in Australia, obviously, the new ball seems to swing a little more than it usually does. But another thing is that this Indian team played in South Africa with the same approach and also performed well there. So that adjustment is only of the bounce.”

“With the grounds being big, you will have to see where and how you would use its big boundaries. When you are playing in small grounds, you will have to see where there is a small side so that big shots can be bit there. All those things, when you go to the ground, you look at the dimensions and make adjustments accordingly. I am sure this Indian team is as prepared as they can be to make those adjustments.”

In the Asia Cup, vice-captain Shubman Gill returning to the top and partnering with Abhishek Sharma meant wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson was moved to number five. Although he was sometimes tentative, Samson demonstrated signs of adjusting to his new batting position through a vital 39 in a Super Over victory over Sri Lanka and 24 in the final over against Pakistan.

Patel concluded by saying that Samson can be expected to deliver good performances in Australia as a number five batter. “We saw in the Asia Cup how the Indian team was thinking in terms of giving confidence to Sanju Samson that he can bat at number five. He is adjusting; there is no doubt about that, and we saw that too. But hopefully, after the Asia Cup, you will get to see Sanju perform even better here in this series.”

Bus operated by Air India’s ground handler catches fire at Delhi Airport; no injuries reported

fire-broke photo

New Delhi, Oct 28, 2025
A bus operated by AI SATS, a third-party ground-handling service provider for Air India, caught fire near bay number 32 at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 3 (T3) on Tuesday morning.

According to multiple reports, the incident took place just a few metres away from an aircraft.

Fortunately, no passengers were onboard the bus at the time of the fire. The blaze was quickly brought under control by the airport fire team, and no injuries or damage to nearby aircraft were reported.

“In a stray incident, a bus operated by one of the Ground handlers caught fire around noon today. Our expert ARFF team on ground immediately swung into action and extinguished the fire within a couple of minutes,” Delhi Airport said while responding to a passenger’s query on social media platform X.

“The bus was stationary and fully vacant at the time of the incident. There were no injuries/casualties. All operations continue to be normal. Safety of our passengers and staff remains paramount to us,” they added.

However, a query sent to AI SATS went answered while writing the article.

The incident comes amid a series of recent operational disruptions faced by Air India. Earlier this month, a US-bound Air India flight from Mumbai to Newark had to return shortly after take-off due to a suspected technical snag.

On October 22, Air India said that the crew of flight AI191 operating from Mumbai to Newark made a precautionary air-return to Mumbai due to a suspected technical issue.

“The flight landed safely back in Mumbai, and the aircraft is undergoing necessary inspections,” according to Air India spokesperson.

In another case, a Delhi-bound flight from Milan was stranded following a technical issue, leaving over 250 passengers stuck overseas before the airline arranged a relief flight.

However, the airline claimed it had extended all immediate assistance to affected passengers, including hotel accommodation and meals.

“Full refunds or complimentary rescheduling were also offered as per passenger preference,” the airline stated.(Agency)
