A person namely Alam resident of Ward no. 1 Sugar Mill Road Morinda, District Rupnagar was sentenced to undergo three imprisonments for life by Sessions Judge, Rupnagar on Saturday i.e. 20.7.2024 for committing murder of his wife,sister-in-law and wife’s nephew and causing injuries to one another nephew.
Accused shall have to face a sentence of total 70 years. As per the allegations of the prosecution, on the night of 3.6.2020 in the area of Sugar Mill Road, Morinda, accused Alam committed brutal murder of his wife Kajal, sister in law Jaspreet Kaur and, Sahil son of his sister in law by inflicting injuries with an ‘axe’ while they were asleep and he even attempted to cause murder of Bobby, second son of his sister-in-law, while staying in the parental house of his wife.
On submission of final report by the prosecution, the trial commenced and finally culminated on 20.7.2024. Agreeing with the contention of the learned Additional Public Prosecutor for the State, Ms. Ramesh Kumari, District & Sessions Judge, Rupnagar, held accused Alam guilty and convicted him for offence of murder under Section 302 IPC and attempt to murder under Section 307 IPC.
The learned court applied Section 57 of IPC which provides that a term of imprisonment for life shall be 20 years. By virtue of Section 57 of IPC, the term of imprisonment for life shall extend upto 60 years i.e. 20 years each under Section 302 IPC (under three heads) and imprisonment for 10 years under Section 307 IPC (under one head) i.e. total 70 years.
