Kangana’s ‘Emergency’ – Will issue certificate only after settling complaints, Censor Board tells High Court

Chandigarh, August 31, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

A PIL filed against highly controversial Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut’s controversial new film ‘Emergency’, was disposed of by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Saturday.

During today’s hearing, the Censor Board, appearing as a party, told the court that no certificate has been issued to ‘Emergency’ yet.

The Censor Board told the High Court that a decision on issuing the certificate would be taken only after investigating the complaints received against the film. According to the Censor Board, every complaint against the film will be heard.

Disposing of the petition, the High Court told the petitioner that their petition would now be heard by the Censor Board.  However, if they remain dissatisfied with the outcome, they have the option of approaching the High Court again.

Notably, several leaders and organizations are protesting the release of the film.  The film courted controversy even before its release due to some objectionable scenes and references in the trailer.

Those opposing the film hold that the trailer itself tells that the film has the potential not only to paint Sikhs in a negative shade but also disturb communal harmony.

The film is set for a September 6 release but is yet to receive a certificate from the Censor Board.
