Jalandhar DC, SSP review Flood Control Arrangements

The Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Kulwant Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal today visited the flood prone areas falling in the Sub Division Phillaur and reviewed the arrangements made by the district administration to strengthen the vulnerable point in the areas along with river Satluj.

The Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police visited the village Kadiana falling in the Sub Division.

Interacting with the officers, the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police asked the officers of the Police and civil administration to work in coordination with each other to tackle any sort of emergency situation.

They directed them to keep a regular check over Flooding, Local breaches of drainage channels and Ensure that all Sewerage Treatment Plants (STP) were working to full of their capacity. Mr. Kulwant Singh and Mr. Mahal also said asked the Circle Revenue Officers and Police officers to remain in field for tackling any sort of emergency.

The Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police categorically said that any sort of laxity in this work would not be tolerated at any cost.

They also asked the Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs) to be fully vigilant in villages also. Mr. Kulwant Singh and Mr. Mahal said that arrangements must be made in such a manner that if any pumping of water was required then the BDPOs must do it at panchayat level.

The Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police further said that the drainage department must ensure adequate number of JCB machines at their disposal for tackling any urgency.

They also said that sandbags should also be arranged in large number to deal with situation arising out of excess water. Mr. Kulwant Singh and Mr. Mahal further directed the Police and civil officers to jointly identify rehabilitation centres in the areas which were affected by high rain/floods.

On the occasion, Tehsildar Mr Tapan Bhanot and others were present.
