Jalandhar DC inaugurates PSA based Oxygen Plant at New Ruby Hospital

Jalandhar, May 25, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
In another move to make Jalandhar a self-reliant district in oxygen production, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Tuesday inaugurated the oxygen generation plant based on pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology at New Ruby Hospital; the plant can generate oxygen gas at the rate of 500 liters per minute.

While kick-starting the oxygen plant, the DC hailed the efforts of New Ruby Hospital to tackle its O2 demand by installing this oxygen generation plant at its premises. He stated that the district administration had appealed to the hospitals and industries to install such plants so that they become self-reliant in terms of oxygen generation.

The Deputy Commissioner urged other healthcare and industrial establishments to emulate the move by setting up such plants at their premises.

He added that this would not only reduce oxygen demands during the peak period but also make Jalandhar a self-reliant district in terms of oxygen production besides bailing out oxygen generation plants, which had faced soaring oxygen demands lately.

Mr. Thori said that installing such plants was a one-time investment aimed at enabling such establishments to be self-reliant in production, which is the need of the hour to combat the third wave.

He added that a multipronged strategy was adopted by the administration encompassing installation of oxygen plant at civil hospital, deployment of oxygen concentrators in the Covid Care facilities, setting up a post-Covid recovery ward in the government hospital, and an oxygen concentrator bank for patients requiring oxygen support at home.

Throwing light on this project, Director, New Ruby Hospital Dr. SPS Grover said that the oxygen generation plant can provide 80 cylinders daily, which would meet out 80 percent of the daily requirement.

He also mentioned that a storage tank with a capacity of 1500 liters of liquid oxygen has also been set up along with the plant to further strengthen its operation. Notably, the hospital was also serving the Covid-19 patients with 40 beds in its Covid care ward.

Prominent among others present on the occasion included Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Jyoti, Director New Ruby Hospital Dr. Puneet Pal Singh, Dr. Harneet Kaur Grover, IMA Jalandhar President Dr. Amarjeet Singh, President Rotary Club Manjit Singh, and Brigadier P.S. Bindra.
