The NSS unit and Red ribbon club of Innocent Hearts College of Education organized an ‘Awareness drive on the ill-effects caused by burning stubble’ under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan in the adopted village Loharan. This awareness campaign was launched under the aegis of DISHA – An Initiative with the aim to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goal no. 13 – ‘Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impact’.
The NSS volunteers and Red ribbon club members visited the fields and farmhouses in the outskirts of village Loharan for spreading awareness amongst farmers about the pollution caused by burning stubble and its related legal considerations.
The Red ribbon club members – Beauty, Golda, Gurpreet, Kandla, Komal, Manmeet, Neha, Parampreet, Parul, Pooja, Poonam, Sangeeta, Tamanna and Tarun held their well-prepared descriptive posters and informative slogan writings to educate farmers about the poisonous pollutants emitted and the consequent harmful effects of these pollutants on the human health and environment. NSS volunteer Yasmeen explained the alternative methods which can be used by farmers instead of burning stubble.
NSS Programme Officer Tarunjyoti Kaur organised a quiz for farmers in the end on the same theme and the winners were given agricultural tools as a token of appreciation by the NSS unit. Principal Dr. Arjinder Singh appreciated the efforts made by the RRC and the NSS unit of the college. He further informed that such field engagement programmes will be carried out more forcefully in the future as well.
